Job Description
We are seeking an Associate Engineer for our Nashville, TN office. In this role, you will be a key member of our accident reconstruction team, providing expert consulting services to clients within the legal, insurance, and transportation industries. We are committed to ensuring that our clients have all the necessary details to accurately understand and resolve high-stakes vehicle accidents.
This role offers a blend of fieldwork and in-office analysis. Fieldwork involves the use of advanced technologies, such as 3D laser scanning, drones, and camera equipment, to accurately document accident sites and vehicles, preserving key details before they can be impacted by environmental changes. In the office, you will analyze factors such as vehicle speed, damage, impact forces, driver reaction times, and available video footage. Additionally, we employ advanced software tools to create precise accident reconstructions, providing a visual representation of the events.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, high mechanical aptitude, and a proactive commitment to applying their expertise in support of accurate, science-based accident reconstruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field Investigation & Evidence Collection
โข Perform on-site inspections, vehicle assessments, and rapid-response investigations
โข Capture and document physical evidence using advanced tools, including 3D laser scanning, drones, and digital photography
โข Preserve scene and vehicle conditions through accurate documentation prior to environmental or external changes
โข Engineering Analysis & Technical Support
โข Apply engineering principles to analyze vehicle motion, damage patterns, impact forces, and driver response
โข Utilize specialized software tools, including CAD, photogrammetry, collision simulation, laser scanning platforms, and vehicle event data recorder (EDR) analysis
โข Support planning and execution of engineering analyses under the guidance of senior engineers
โข Documentation & Reporting
โข Prepare clear, technically accurate written materials in support of engineering reports
โข Assist with the development of visual exhibits and reconstruction models
โข Present technical findings to internal team members and, as appropriate, external audiences with varying levels of technical expertise
Project & Team Support
โข Support multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy
โข Collaborate effectively with engineers, client engagement staff, and operations partners
โข Demonstrate professionalism and accountability in all client-facing and internal interactions

โข Engineering fundamentals relevant to motor vehicle crash analysis
โข Vehicle dynamics, automotive systems, and mechanical principles
โข Interest in or exposure to advanced driver-assist systems, autonomous vehicle technologies, and vehicle data networks

โข Technical writing and documentation skills
โข Ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
โข Proficiency or demonstrated aptitude in 3D modeling and engineering software tools

Qualifications
โข Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline required
โข Master's degree candidates preferred
โข Academic or applied experience in technical research, analysis, or engineering projects preferred
Work Environment & Travel Requirements
โข Combination of office-based analysis and field investigation work
โข Approximately 50% regional travel required
โข Fieldwork may involve outdoor environments and varied site conditions

Compensation
The base salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $75,000, depending on prior experience and expertise, which will be evaluated during the interview process.
