About the Team

Data is at the centre of everything we do at Capital One. Your role as a Data Analyst on the team will heavily leverage your deep expertise in SQL. You will be a creative data wrangler, comfortable with extracting, transforming and analyzing large, complex datasets to uncover new narratives. This requires more than just the ability to write complex, performant queries; you must also possess a thorough understanding of database structures, query optimization techniques and best practices for data governance. Ultimately, you will be a proactive collaborator, skilled at articulating complex ideas through data visualization tools like QuickSight, Tableau or Matplotlib and eagerly sharing your knowledge across diverse teams.

About the Role

In this role, you will serve as a vital partner to the business, influencing strategy and execution across key areas like fraud prevention, credit risk or marketing. This role requires a blend of advanced technical analysis skills and strong business acumen to tackle complex challenges and deliver groundbreaking solutions. You will be responsible for translating technical insights into clear, concise and actionable strategic recommendations. Success in this position involves working effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to implement strategies and innovative solutions that enhance performance, mitigate risk and drive profitable growth.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Stakeholder Partnership & Business Recommendations: Engage directly with senior stakeholders (e.g., line-of-business leads, product owners, risk management) to deeply understand business goals, challenges and decision needs. Partner with them to prioritize initiatives and refine strategies. Drive business strategy by proactively identifying, quantifying risks and translating complex analysis into compelling, concise recommendations that guide critical roadmap and decision-making processes.

  • Actionable Insight and Executive Storytelling: Draw clear business conclusions and present comprehensive insights that explain "what happened," "why it happened," "what it means" and "what we recommend doing next" (including risk mitigation or growth levers). Design and deploy rich data visualizations and craft crisp, executive-ready narratives and dashboards to empower senior leadership to make high-stakes decisions efficiently.

  • End-to-End Data Analysis and Execution: Lead the full data analysis lifecycle, translating complex business problems into defined specifications and final implemented solutions.

  • Data Preparation & Transformation: Apply expert-level SQL skills to efficiently transform raw data into clean, accessible datasets for yourself and other analysts.

  • Governance, Reporting and Automation: Build, automate and maintain critical business reporting and controls for processes and proactively identify and deliver process improvements for efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience with SQL (e.g., Snowflake, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).

  • Proficient in SQL for data extraction, wrangling and advanced analytics including Joins, Window Functions, CTEs, Aggregations and performance trending across large enterprise data environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a quantitative field such as Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or a related discipline.

  • At least 1 year of professional experience using dbt (data build tool) for data transformation, modeling and maintaining a production-ready data warehouse.

  • At least 1 year of experience applying strong analytical and mathematical skills to solve complex business problems.

  • Effective stakeholder management experience with strong skills in communication, negotiation, strategic thinking, influence and technical abilities is highly desirable.

  • Proficient in data analysis within a cloud environment, including experience with open-source programming (e.g., Python), advanced SQL for large datasets (e.g. Snowflake), version control (e.g. Git/GitHub) and cloud services (e.g. AWS).

  • Experience with Linux or equivalent is preferred.

Working at Capital One.

You'll be empowered to take end-to-end ownership of your work and your career, backed by a high-performance, hybrid culture and holistic suite of benefits designed to support your whole self.

  • Take ownership of your own potential: Whether you're looking to upskill, pivot into new business areas, or master your craft, you'll have access to tools and mentorship to reach your potential and define your career trajectory.

  • Find your rhythm: We believe trust fosters the flexibility and autonomy required to balance personal needs with a focus on high performance. We support a hybrid model - with 3 days in the office per week - that gives room for both collaboration and personal commitments.

  • Benefits built for your life: We take a holistic approach to well-being, providing support for you and those who are most important to you. This includes: full coverage for spouses, domestic partners and dependents, a one-time Work From Home allowance to build your comfortable workspace, up to $3,000 in mental health coverage and up to $5,000 in annual tuition subsidies.
