Investment Associate

Location: Montreal, Full-Time In-Office

Valnet is seeking a highly analytical and driven Investment Analyst to help run the acquisition lifecycle and to manage our internal investments. The ideal candidate must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the desire to work in a fast-paced environment. This person will report directly to the Head of M&A and will work closely with our Brands and the rest of the leadership team in regards to future and potential acquisitions.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead the entire acquisition lifecycle: sound knowledge of the competitive landscape, sourcing, pipeline growth, capital deployment, valuation, negotiating, assisting counsel with purchase agreement drafting, integration/management (operations): with the ultimate objective of driving results in line with IRR expectations.
  • Manage our internal investments by leading/co-leading operations with content/business partners and driving operational/financial results as per budgeted expectations.
  • Assist investment team’s needs with ad hoc requests, i.e. operational and financial modeling/budgeting/tracking/KPIs, while also assisting with special projects/reporting/meetings/presentations, etc.

Other daily tasks include:

  • KPI tracking: this includes creating and iterating on processes to track financial and operational KPIs such as revenue, cost per article, active sessions, failure rates, EBITDA, etc.
  • Modeling: assisting in creating frameworks for operational and financial models, as well as forecasting for the future while also analyzing past data.
  • Data analysis tasks: Using tools available (PubInights, GA, etc) to do a deep dive into certain operations or certain areas of operations. Evaluating all data and looking for patterns of behavior that could help inform decisions.
  • M&A DD: reconcile financials, compile and evaluate operational data, use data to make informed decisions on forecasting.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or in a related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in M&A, investment banking, private equity, VC, or corporate development. 
  • A strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques and due diligence processes.
  • A strong self-motivated learner with strong analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
  • An affinity for adtech, media or technology.

Responsabilités :
  • Co-diriger l'ensemble du cycle d'acquisition : connaissance approfondie du paysage concurrentiel, sourcing, développement du pipeline, déploiement du capital, évaluation, négociation, assistance aux conseillers juridiques pour la rédaction des accords d'achat, intégration/gestion des opérations, avec l'objectif final de délivrer des résultats conformes aux attentes de rendement interne (IRR).
  • Gérer nos investissements internes en menant ou co-dirigeant les opérations avec les partenaires de contenu/affaires et en stimulant les résultats opérationnels/financiers conformément aux prévisions budgétaires.
  • Répondre aux besoins de l'équipe d'investissement par des demandes ad hoc, c’est ‘à dire la modélisation opérationnelle et financière, le suivi budgétaire et des KPIs, assistance sur des projets spéciaux, des rapports, des présentations, etc.
Autres tâches quotidiennes :
  • Suivi des KPIs : Création et optimisation des processus pour suivre les indicateurs financiers et opérationnels tels que le revenu, le coût par article, les sessions actives, les taux d'échec, l'EBITDA, etc.
  • Modélisation : Participation à la conception de modèles financiers et opérationnels, prévisions à long terme et analyse des données historiques.
  • Analyse de données : Utilisation d'outils tels que PubInsights et Google Analytics pour effectuer des analyses approfondies des opérations et identifier des tendances pouvant influencer la prise de décision.
  • Due Diligence M&A : Rapprochement des données financières, compilation et évaluation des informations opérationnelles pour prendre des décisions éclairées sur les prévisions futures.
Exigences : 
  • Diplôme de baccalauréat en finance, commerce, économie ou dans un domaine connexe.
  • Un MBA ou un diplôme de deuxième cycle constitue un atout.
  • De 3 à 5 ans d'expérience pertinente en fusions et acquisitions, en banque d'investissement, en capital-investissement, en capital-risque ou en développement corporatif.
  • Excellente compréhension de la modélisation financière, des techniques d’évaluation et des processus de vérification diligente.
  • Capacité d’apprentissage autonome, avec de solides compétences analytiques, en négociation et en communication.
  • Intérêt marqué pour l’adtech, les médias ou les technologies.
