Job Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned labor and employment attorney who thrives in fast-paced, highly regulated environments and brings deep experience managing complex workplace matters. As Senior Associate Counsel, Labor & Employment, you'll serve as a trusted advisor and partner to the business, providing practical legal guidance and counsel that supports innovation while managing risk. This role provides critical legal leadership that supports our workforce, strengthens organizational integrity, and ensures compliance in an industry where security and operational excellence are paramount.
Reporting to the Senior Assistant General Counsel & Director, Corporate Compliance, you'll work across a wide variety of legal matters that directly impact our mission and the future of advanced nuclear energy.
What You Will Do:
  • Serve as Centrus Energy's primary counsel on labor and employment matters, collaborating closely with HR, Security, Operations, and senior leadership
  • Deliver legal counsel and support to Centrus Energy's business operations on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including issues involving the FMLA, FLSA, ADA, ADEA, Title VII, OFCCP, NLRA, and HR policy compliance
  • Lead and oversee sensitive internal investigations, including potential misconduct, ethics violations, security-related incidents, and insider-threat assessments
  • Support labor relations strategy, including union engagement, labor negotiations, contract interpretation, and dispute resolution
  • Advise on federal and state employment laws, workplace policies, discipline, termination decisions, and accommodation processes
  • Manage employee-related issues that intersect with export controls, classified/unclassified nuclear information, and federal regulatory requirements
  • Develop and strengthen ethical compliance programs and organizational conduct standards
  • Provide counsel on workforce-related aspects of government contracting requirements, including compliance with FAR/DFARS/DEAR when employee actions affect contract performance
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to mitigate organizational risk and maintain a culture of accountability and transparency.
  • Manage outside counsel in employment litigation or specialized investigations when required
  • Handle inquiries, audits, investigations, and actions from government officials or agencies responsible for labor and employment regulation
  • Identify and assess legal risks and new developments and advise internal business partners and leadership on development and implementation of new laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Provide legal training based on risk assessment, strategic objectives, and legal developments

We'd Love to Hear From People With:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
  • 7+ years of legal experience, including advising on labor and employment matters.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a commitment to integrity, professionalism, collegiality, and keeping stakeholders appropriately informed
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues and to influence others inside and outside the legal department
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams within legal, HR and business units
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively prioritize
  • Demonstrated business acumen, ability to learn Centrus Energy's business and experience developing and recommending practical and strategic approaches to legal challenges facing business clients

A Successful Candidate Brings:
  • Significant client counseling experience, including experience directly advising HR professionals and business leaders on employment law matters, including employee discipline and discharge, performance management, employee separation agreements, reductions in force, leaves of absence, wage & hour, EEO charge proceedings and employment litigation
  • Experience representing employers in traditional labor relations matters, including collective bargaining, contract administration, labor arbitration, union organizing, union representation elections and defense of unfair labor practice claims
  • Experience in at least one additional substantive legal area with an emphasis on providing advice related to NRC and DOE regulated activities, government contracts, or commercial contracts
  • Flexibility and eagerness to work on broad range of legal matters
  • Ability to effectively navigate and work efficiently in a matrix organization
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a "Q" clearance

Pay:
Estimated Starting Base Salary Range: $180,000 - $205,000. This position is bonus eligible. This position is Bonus eligible. Centrus considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. While the posted range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position, compensation above the range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications and directly relevant experience.
