The OBU Division of Mathematics is dedicated to excellence in teaching and mentoring, both for mathematics students and students in partner disciplines like engineering, business, health science, and computer science.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced assistant/associate professor of mathematics to join our faculty. This is an instructional position with primary teaching responsibilities both in service courses and major degree course offerings for students in the university. Expertise is desired in applied mathematics, with a preference given to those with experience in industry.

Essential Functions:

· Teach a variety of mathematics courses at the undergraduate level, including service courses in the university’s general education Common Core and upper-level courses in one or more areas of applied mathematics such as statistics, probability, numerical analysis, differential equations, engineering mathematics, programming, data science.

· Mentor and formally advise students on academic and career goals.

· Contribute to division and university service activities such as committee service, academic assessment, meeting with prospective students, curriculum development.

· Remain current in the field by participating in scholarly activities and being active in professional organizations.

· Uphold and promote the Christian mission and values of the university.

Other Duties:

· Cultivate connections with industry partners to enhance the practical learning experience for students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of best pedagogy standards in the teaching of mathematical concepts.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality; high standards of conduct, appearance, and attitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; to work and lead collaboratively.
  • Ability to supervise student staff and lead groups working in a collaborative, strategy-driven environment.

Education:

· Required: MA or MS in mathematics or a related field.

· Preferred: PhD in mathematics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Required: Teaching mathematics at the college level.
  • Preferred: Using mathematics in industry.

Equipment:

· Graphing calculator (e.g., the TI-83/84 and/or 89 series).

· Microsoft Excel.

· Knowledge of programming languages.

· Facility in using iPad technologies or other teaching tools.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to conduct lectures and facilitate student learning using educational technologies, as appropriate

Special Requirements:

· Must be a member of a local evangelical* Christian church.
