In This Role
We are seeking an experiencedAndroid Test Automation Engineer to support software quality, validation, and release readiness across a portfolio of next-generation connected devices. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test solutions that provision, configure, and validate software on physical prototype devices running an Android-based operating system. The role requires close collaboration with software engineers, program managers, and technical leads to ensure product stability, identify defects early in the development lifecycle, and improve overall test coverage. The ideal candidate will have a strong software engineering foundation, hands-on test automation experience, and the ability to independently drive technical initiatives from design through execution.
Responsibilities
Test Automation & Validation
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites to validate software functionality across devices, builds, and release environments.
  • Create reusable automated tests covering functional, regression, smoke, performance, and release validation scenarios.
  • Execute automated test plans, scripts, and procedures to ensure product quality and stability.
  • Analyze test results, investigate failures, reproduce issues, and provide detailed diagnostic information to engineering teams.
  • Expand and improve automated test coverage for critical user scenarios and release-blocking functionality.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, execution reports, and coverage summaries.
Automation Framework Development
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable test automation frameworks.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to enhance automation infrastructure and testing strategies.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous validation and rapid feedback cycles.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to automation processes, tooling, and test effectiveness.
Defect Management & Quality Reporting
  • Identify, document, track, and escalate software defects, quality risks, and release blockers.
  • Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot issues and verify defect resolutions.
  • Maintain detailed records of recurring failures, known issues, test gaps, and risk areas.
  • Generate reports on test execution, automation coverage, defect trends, and overall software quality.
  • Provide recommendations to improve product reliability and testing efficiency.
Release Validation & Deployment Support
  • Support software release validation activities and automated regression testing efforts.
  • Coordinate testing activities with engineering and project stakeholders to meet release milestones.
  • Perform release readiness assessments and post-release validation testing.
  • Provide clear feedback regarding software stability, quality risks, and outstanding issues.
Device & Environment Management
  • Configure, provision, and maintain physical prototype devices and test environments.
  • Execute automated smoke tests to verify device, build, and environment readiness.
  • Troubleshoot test environment issues and maintain automation infrastructure.
  • Document hardware configurations, environment setups, and testing procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering, software testing, test automation, or quality engineering experience.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test suites.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing on physical devices, including device provisioning, configuration, and software deployment.
  • Experience developing software in strongly typed programming languages such as Kotlin, Java, C++, C#, or similar.
  • Experience analyzing test failures, debugging software issues, and identifying root causes.
  • Experience testing software across multiple builds, devices, environments, and release cycles.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated validation workflows.
  • Experience documenting defects and working within bug-tracking systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and drive technical initiatives to completion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience withAndroid platform testing, Android device provisioning, or AOSP-based operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining Android test automation frameworks.
  • Experience with on-device automation, device management tools, and mobile testing infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Android development concepts and debugging tools.
  • Experience validating software on prototype, embedded, IoT, or connected devices.
  • Experience with release validation, production-readiness testing, and large-scale automated regression testing.
  • Familiarity with performance testing and scalability validation.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Experience supporting hardware/software integration testing.
  • Knowledge of enterprise-grade device ecosystems and operating system validation.
Salary Range
At Blueprint, we strive to offer competitive pay that reflects the value of our team members. Compensation for this role is influenced by a variety of factors, including skills, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographic market.
For candidates based in Washington State, the anticipated salary range is $105,000-$110,000 USD/Annually. Please note that we typically do not hire new employees at the top of the posted range. Actual starting pay will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity. The final salary and job title may vary depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and could fall outside the stated range.
