Our System Design Engineers directly influence the design and deployment of broadband infrastructure that serve thousands of residents across the country.


Role Summary:

The System Design Engineer is responsible for designing and engineering scalable broadband network solutions (including LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi) for multifamily and associated developments nationwide. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert throughout the project lifecycleโ€”from initial concept and architecture through deployment and network acceptance.

We rely on our associates for flexibility and foresight, while maintaining confidentiality related to high-level systems and operations.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design Ethernet, Fiber, transport and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Develop MDU network infrastructure designs and standards.
  • Perform capacity planning, network upgrades, and scalability analysis.
  • Create bills of materials, scopes of work, technical documentation and presentations.
  • Engineer fiber distribution systems, splice plans, and transport architectures.
  • Perform predictive Wi-Fi design and coverage analysis.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Construction, Engineering, and Business Development teams.
  • Provide engineering support during deployment, commissioning, and network acceptance.
  • Evaluate and research new technologies, vendors, and products.
  • Review and update as-built documentation and ensure compliance with design standards.
Requirements:

Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of software systems and network design tools.
  • Proficient with network engineering tools and applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Organized and detail oriented with excellent follow through skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours when required.

Education & Experience

  • 3+ years of network engineering or network design experience.
  • Experience with Ethernet, GPON/XGS-PON, fiber optic, and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts.
  • Experience creating construction drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CWNA, CWNP, BICSI or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
