Electrical Engineer - Electrical System design, Wiring/Cable Harness

  • Seniority: Mid to senior level, ideally 3-5 or more years of experience, even more is great  
  • Location: Work is ONSITE in NW Alabama (Near MS Border/Belmont MS) - No remote or hybrid options 
  • Compensation: This is a PERM/Direct hire role offering a competitive package and the salary being offered is commensurate with the experience brought to the role. There is some flexibility for the right fit engineer.

We are seeking an experienced, Degreed Electrical Design Engineer, for a key growth role within the automobile/Recreational Vehicle/Specialty Vehicle industry.   

The ideally qualified engineer will be coming to the role with experience with Vehicle electrical system design experience ( from Marine Vehicle, Specialty Vehicle, RV/Recreational Vehicle, or Automotive industries), for an engineering opportunity that is custom fitted for an experienced electrical engineer to take on a hands-on position within a growing specialty vehicle environment. This is an expansion role created due to work growth.

This is not a "sit in the corner behind a screen" design, design-only centric role. You will be working in an industrial setting, working with design, manufacturing, and assembly teams, and interfacing with mechanical teams. We need those who are comfortable in an industrial space and who can work effectively in a collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate will work across a wide range of electrical systems used in modern Recreational Vehicles, Automobiles, Marine Vehicles, or Motorhomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical systems for specialty vehicle floorplans from concept through production.
  • Design, layout, and develop electrical wiring harness and cable harness systems.
  • Develop, install, and troubleshoot electrical systems including power distribution, communication networks, and lighting components.
  • Perform hands-on diagnostics, repairs, and system integration on motorhome electrical platforms
  • Ensure compliance with RVIA, NEC, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales, service, vendors, production, and mechanical teams.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews to ensure designs are production-ready.
  • Create and manage BOMs and support engineering change processes.
  • Create and update technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and system specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during prototype builds, pilot builds, and production.
  • Support testing and validation of new electrical designs.
  • Drive continuous improvement and product innovation.
  • Support quality, safety, and accuracy across engineering and manufacturing.
  • Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams during design and manufacturing phases.
  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates Degree  is a MUST, but we would prefer those with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Anywhere from 3 to Five, or more years of experience in electrical design or engineering, ideally with direct experience in marine vehicles, boating, specialty vehicles, or similar complex electrical system environments.
  • TARGETED experience with the Design, layout, and development of electrical wiring harness and cable harness systems, ideally for a VEHICLE or other LIMITED SPACE/Route option application is needed.
  • Strong background in hands-on electrical work,electrical systems design.
  • Experience with low voltage systems, power management, communication protocols, and lighting technologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical issues in real-world applications.
  • Familiarity with specialty vehicle or marine system design preferred over traditional automotive.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (SAP is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, routing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication skills and a team mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work onsite daily and relocate to the NW Alabama region if not already local.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
