Napa County is actively seeking its next Assistant Director of Corrections. There is currently one (1) regular, full-time vacancy. The successful candidate will be eligible to receive a $15,000 signing bonus and may be eligible for Vacation Leave Bank as outlined by the County's Hiring Incentive Policy.

About The Napa County Department of Corrections:
The Napa County Department of Corrections (NCDC) is dedicated to providing professional correctional services to the citizens of Napa County. The Napa County Department of Corrections has jurisdiction over the Napa County Jail facility; it does not operate under the authority of the Napa County Sheriff's Office. The facility houses both pre-sentenced and sentenced incarcerated persons, and is responsible for the coordination of all programs and services related to the institutional care, treatment and rehabilitation, including classification, diagnosis, intake screening, and programs that deal with sentencing alternatives.
About the Position of Assistant Director of Corrections:
The Assistant Director of Corrections is an at-will, senior level management position that serves as a key member of the leadership team for the Napa County Department of Corrections. They are responsible for establishing, interpreting and carrying out overall departmental policies and procedures. The position is responsible for analyzing and making recommendations on organizational, financial and procedural matters; program and rehabilitation development and coordination; assisting the Director in the administration of the department and acts for the Director as required.
The Ideal Candidate:
The Assistant Director is a key leader who is committed to a long-term position and desires to be part of the Department succession planning. The ideal candidate is a collaborative corrections leader with extensive experience managing complex correctional operations and a demonstrated history of working effectively in a unionized environment. The ideal candidate will be a confident decision-maker who builds trust, holds others accountable, develops staff, and creates a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will bring a strong commitment to rehabilitation and successful reentry, and interpersonal skills necessary to navigate complex organizational dynamics, build effective partnerships, and work successfully with County leadership, employees, and community stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have extensive leadership and management experience in California Corrections Facilities to include experience with an understanding of the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).
Position Requirements:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
  • Experience:Eight years of increasingly responsible correctional program experience including four years of management, administrative, and supervisory responsibility.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, administration of justice, correctional administration, criminal justice planning, or a related field.
License or Certificate: Completion of mandated Standards and Training for Corrections program requirements.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
