DSG is seeking a Second Shift Warehouse Assistant Manager in our Plymouth, MN location. In this full time, salaried position, work typically ranges between the hours of 1:30pm and 9:30pm, Monday through Friday, but may vary on occasion according to business needs. As a Warehouse Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the overall operations of the warehouse, including overseeing the day-to-day activities of warehouse staff and ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of warehouse processes. This role involves managing a team (up to 10 employees), ensuring that operations meet quality standards, safety regulations, and company objectives. The Assistant Warehouse Manager will also collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and/or Branch Manager to implement improvements, enhance productivity, and maintain high operational standards.

A Typical Day in the Life of a Warehouse Assistant Manager at DSG:

  • Oversees the daily operations of the warehouse to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tasks.
  • Directly supervise and provide guidance to up to 5 warehouse employees ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately. This includes responsibility for carrying out the performance review process and disciplinary actions.
  • Provide training, coaching, and support to employees to enhance their performance and professional development.
  • Oversee the engagement of direct reports, understanding their work/career aspirations, and facilitating opportunities to upskill and advance.
  • Direct relevant information/communication to direct reports.
  • Participate in hiring process for staff within department, interviewing and recommending applicants for hire.
  • Enforce safety protocols within the warehouse, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees. Promote safety awareness and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operations challenges within the warehouse. Act as a point of contact for any operations issues that may arise and ensure they are addressed promptly.
  • Recommend measures to improve warehouse operating efficiencies, working conditions, and overall performance whenever possible.
  • Ensure necessary tools and equipment are available and in good working condition to complete tasks. Report any equipment issues to Branch/Warehouse Manager.
  • Provide courteous, prompt, and efficient service to customers.
  • Lead by example in promoting safety-conscious behavior, encouraging others to report safety concerns, and ensuring that all accidents/incidents are documented and reported promptly.
  • Ensure all company procedures and policies are being followed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

A Successful Warehouse Assistant Manager Typically Has:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in warehouse operations, preferably with additional experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a small team of employees.
  • Safety training on material handling and forklift driving.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis, and up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.
