Job description

Senior Vice President of Accounting

Are You the Kind of Leader Who Builds Elite Teams?

·        Do you lead from the front, rolling up your sleeves when needed while empowering your team to own results?

·        Are you known for setting exceptionally high standards and holding yourself and others accountable?

·        Have you built high-performing accounting organizations that consistently deliver accuracy, speed, and continuous improvement?

·        Do you thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments where excellence is expected—not requested?

·        Are you a CPA with the business acumen to influence executive decisions beyond the numbers?

If you’re looking for another accounting job, this isn’t it.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to help lead a nationally recognized, privately held company with a track record of extraordinary growth, keep reading.

The Connor Group is one of the country’s most successful owners and operators of luxury apartment communities. Over the past 30+ years, we’ve grown from zero to more than $5 billion in assets by hiring exceptional leaders—not industry veterans.

We’re seeking a Sr. Vice President of Accounting who will own the accounting function, develop exceptional talent, and help shape the financial future of a company that refuses to settle for average.

This is more than a Sr. VP of Accounting role. We're looking for a leader who wants to help shape the financial future of the company—and, for the right person, this role offers a clear path to becoming our future Chief Financial Officer.

What You’ll Own

·        Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting organization of approximately 15 professionals, including 5-8 direct reports.

·        Own the monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting across more than 55 legal entities.

·        Direct the annual audit, tax planning, and tax compliance while identifying strategic opportunities to improve outcomes.

·        Lead treasury operations, cash management, budgeting, and forecasting in partnership with senior leadership.

·        Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies that support continued growth.

·        Develop scalable accounting policies and procedures that position the organization for the future.

·        Oversee payroll operations and support benefits administration with an unwavering commitment to accuracy and compliance.

·        Serve as a trusted business partner to executive leadership, providing financial insight that drives strategic decisions.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

·        Is a CPA with progressive leadership experience in corporate accounting.

·        Has successfully led and developed high-performing accounting teams.

·        Thinks like an owner and takes pride in delivering exceptional results.

·        Combines strong technical accounting expertise with strategic business thinking.

·        Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and driven by accountability.

·        Leads with integrity, urgency, and a passion for continuous improvement.

Apartment Industry Experience?

Not required.

In fact, many of our most successful leaders came from outside the real estate industry. We value proven leadership, business acumen, and the ability to build great teams over industry experience.

Why The Connor Group?

Recognized as a:

·        2026 USA TODAY Top Workplace

·        Multiple Top Workplace & Culture Award Winner

·        2x Gold Stevie Award – Company of the Year

·        TITAN Award Winner for Best Workplace & Best Company Culture

What You’ll Receive

·        Equity ownership opportunity worth approximately $6-8 Million

·        Competitive executive compensation with performance-based incentives.

·        Exceptional Day 1 medical benefits for you and your family, including a company-funded HSA or FSA.

·        401(k) with company match up to 9%.

·        The opportunity to help lead one of the nation’s fastest-growing, privately held companies alongside an elite executive team.
