What does a VP Finance & Accounting do?

A VP of Finance & Accounting is a senior executive responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting functions within an organization. Their duties typically include managing financial planning and analysis, budgeting, reporting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. They also supervise accounting teams, develop strategies to optimize financial performance, and provide financial insights to support business decisions. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial health and integrity of the company.

What are some common challenges faced by a VP Finance & Accounting when leading cross-functional teams?

A VP of Finance & Accounting often collaborates with leaders from operations, IT, and sales to align financial strategies with overall business objectives. One common challenge is ensuring consistent communication and understanding of financial data across departments that may not share the same technical expertise. Balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day financial reporting responsibilities can also be demanding. Effective VPs foster a collaborative environment, enabling different teams to work towards shared goals while maintaining compliance and financial integrity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a VP Finance & Accounting, and why are they important?

To thrive as a VP of Finance & Accounting, you need in-depth expertise in financial management, accounting principles, strategic planning, and typically a CPA or MBA qualification. Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (such as SAP or Oracle), financial modeling tools, and regulatory compliance frameworks is essential. Exceptional leadership, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills help drive teams and influence executive decisions. These competencies ensure sound financial stewardship, support organizational growth, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Job description

Executive Vice President, Finance & Accounting

At Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations, we give electronics their next best life while protecting our planet and our customers' interests. As a Certified Great Place to Work® since 2017, we've built a team culture that's rewarding, engaging, and FUN! But don't just take our word for it—see what our Team Members have to say.

???? Work Location: Onsite; Onalaska, WI
???? Total Compensation: $225,000 - $300,000 annually (represents base + quarterly direct profit incentive)

Benefits Include:

  • Comprehensive health benefits starting the first of the month following hire
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Profit sharing
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays
  • Executive-level autonomy and impact

???? How We Hire: The Head, Heart, and Briefcase

At Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations, we believe great performance comes from alignment across three areas:

  • ????Head – your natural behavioral drives and cognitive agility (measured by our Predictive Index assessment)
  • ❤️Heart – your values, passions, and what drives you to make a meaningful impact
  • ????Briefcase – your experiences, skills, and results from past roles

Every step of our process is designed to understand you in all three areas. It's how we ensure the best mutual fit—not just for what you can do, but for how you'll thrive here long-term.

To be considered for this role, you will need to complete our Predictive Index (PI) assessment (takes <20 minutes total). We respect your time and promise clear, timely communication throughout.

???? Your Purpose

We're looking for a hands-on, operational finance leader to serve as our EVP of Finance & Accounting (CFO equivalent).

This is not a traditional "reporting" CFO role.

This is a role for someone who:

  • Builds systems
  • Drives performance
  • Partners with operations
  • Turns financial data into better business decisions

You will lead finance across the enterprise while helping us scale from a strong foundation into our next phase of profitable, organic growth.

???? What This Role Is NOT

This role is not focused on:

  • Transaction-heavy M&A or deal-making environments
  • Pure accounting or compliance leadership
  • Highly layered, large corporate finance structures

We are looking for a builder and operator—someone who thrives in a mid-market environment and enjoys rolling up their sleeves to improve how the business runs.

???? What You'll Do

  • Lead the entire finance function: FP&A, accounting, treasury, and risk
  • Build and scale a driver-based forecasting and planning model
  • Establish clear KPIs tied to operational performance (margin, throughput, working capital)
  • Improve visibility into cost structure, profitability, and performance drivers
  • Partner closely with operations and leadership to drive organic revenue and margin growth
  • Own the integrity of financial reporting, controls, and the close process
  • Lead banking, insurance, audit, tax, and legal relationships
  • Build, coach, and elevate a high-performing finance team
  • Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team

???? What Success Looks Like (Year 1)

  • A scalable, driver-based FP&A function is in place
  • Leadership is using financial insights—not reports—to make decisions
  • Clear visibility into margin, cost drivers, and business unit performance
  • Finance is seen as a true business partner, not a back-office function

???? What You Bring (Briefcase)

Required Experience:

  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior leadership (CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent)
  • Experience leading finance in a manufacturing, product-based, or operationally complex business
  • Ownership of cost structure, margins, inventory, and working capital
  • Proven success building FP&A and KPI systems that drive performance (not just reporting results)
  • Experience in mid-market environments ($50M–$300M revenue range)

Strongly Preferred:

  • Multi-location or multi-business-unit leadership
  • Experience in private, family-owned, or entrepreneurial environments
  • ERP and financial systems implementation or transformation experience

???? Skills & Abilities (Head)

  • You translate financial data into operational decisions that improve performance
  • You've built systems—not just maintained them
  • You're as comfortable in the details as you are in the boardroom
  • You bring a strong bias for action and accountability
  • You've succeeded in environments where you needed to build, not inherit

❤️ Who You Are (Heart)

You're a strategic, servant-style leader who balances vision with execution. You communicate clearly, lead with self-awareness, and aren't afraid to offer candid input—with tact and respect.

You thrive in growth environments, enjoy building teams and systems, and bring a calm, steady presence to complex decisions. You're as comfortable in the weeds as you are in the boardroom—and you know when each is required.

???? Why You'll Love Working Here

  • ???? Award-Winning Culture: We've been a Certified Great Place to Work® since 2017—because when you put people first, amazing things happen!
  • ???? Values-Driven Organization: We live our core values every day (not just stick them on the wall).
  • ???? Environmental Impact: Help give electronics their "next best life" while protecting the planet.
  • ???? Innovation Encouraged: Got a bright idea? We love creativity and welcome fresh perspectives.
  • ???? Growth Opportunities: Access to professional development and career advancement.
