Job description

The Spartan Group is a growing company that currently consists of 13 New Vehicle Dealerships in 6 western states. We are seeking an Assistant VP of Accounting. This person will report directly to our Executive Vice President, and will be based out of the Executive office, located in Ashland, Oregon.
This individual's past work history must exhibit the necessary skill set to handle the day to day accounting processes, including payroll, inventory, receivables, accounts payable, billing etc.
Duties and experience should include, but not be limited to:
  • Preparing a complete financial statement monthly according to dealership guidelines and within each manufacturer's format and time frame. Ensure that all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection and co-op advertising are current and accurate.
  • Take charge of the end of month process.
  • Working knowledge of all accounting positions.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Review financial statements, ledgers and scheduled accounts and work with the accounting staff to clear up any discrepancies.
  • Prepares sales tax and other state tax returns in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review weekly and bonus payrolls. Post payroll journals to the general ledger.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Summarize the sales and expense analysis to detect potential areas and opportunities for improved company profitability
  • Maintains and inspects accounting information for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Continually strives to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the dealership.
  • Any other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 5+ years automotive accounting experience required.
  • Strong CDK and Reynolds & Reynolds experience.
  • Full knowledge of financial statements and all aspects of the automotive accounting department.
  • Ability to work and communicate with department managers and General Managers in a professional and productive manner
