POSITION: CNA Instructor
LOCATION: Dover High School
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB SUMMARY:
The CNA instructor (Nurse Assisting Program) is responsible for leading and directing students toward their goal of satisfactory completion of the Delaware CNA Certification Test in a three year Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway. The instructor works with high school students in a classroom and clinical setting.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs and teaches assessment/data collection in an on-going systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive status; also nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement and patient advocacy.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care that is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes. Implements care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  • Establishes priorities or patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care given by health care team members.
  • Identifies patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate measures. Documents patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age specific needs, cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified within the institution.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care of a designated patient population.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Participates regularly in staff development activities for the CNA Program.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Participates in unit and Department Performance Improvement activities as directed.
  • Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of health care team members.
  • Utilizes effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team and nursing home partnerships.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with members of the cooperating nursing facilities, students, health care team, patients, and families.
  • Acknowledges staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Prepares course application forms and maintains student enrollment and test registration records.
  • Order and maintain a budget for supplies and needs of a CNA program.
  • Cooperate and follow nursing facilities requirements for partnerships and ensure compliance of requirements of students.
  • Develop curriculum and lessons that would allow satisfactory completion of student requirements for CNA certification from Delaware's Long Term Care office.
  • Provides data for student decisions and demonstrates flexibility in the resolution of student issues.
  • Ability to navigate in a windows environment, utilizing a mouse and the ability to learn and teach electronic medical record system applications.
  • Identifies and solves problems effectively.
  • Supports all students in order for student preparation for the Delaware CNA Certification Test administered through D&S Diversified Technologies LLP
  • Ensure compliance of the Dover High School CNA program with all State classroom and clinical requirements for CNA training courses set forth in Delaware Code, Title 16, 3003A with all regulations promulgated pursuant to this chapter.
  • Performs other related duties as designated by the principal as necessary.

Qualifications:
  1. Current Delaware Registered Nurse License in good standing with the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation's Board of Nursing http://dpr.delaware.gov/boards/nursing/index.shtml
  2. Eligible for a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) for transport of students to clinical experiences
Pre-requisite Requirement:
  1. Professional education and experience that meets Delaware Board of Nursing regulations for a CNA training program as noted in the Delaware Health and Social Services (DHSS) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) teaching requirements www.dhss.delaware.gov/dhss/dltcrp/cnareg.html
  2. Must have at least one year experience in a Long Term Care facility with evidence to support experience.
