Shared Hospital Services is a cooperative industrial laundry facility based out of Portsmouth, Virginia. The mission of Shared Hospital Services is to achieve and maintain, through a system of laundry/linen management, an unequaled level of measurable high quality and productivity in the delivery of laundry/linen services which are responsive to the values and needs of our members.
The Hospital Linen lead position serves as assistant to the manager as primary liaison and coordination link between the Hospital and Shared Hospital Services. Responsible for daily operations of the Linen Department. Responsible for efficiently receiving bulk linen orders, distributing them and maintaining departmental inventory par levels, collecting and handling soiled linens according to Universal Precaution guidelines.
Must agree to have a background check performed and meet guidelines to be eligible for hire.
Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing to be eligible for hire.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Must be able to push/pull linen bins weighing up to 700 lbs.
  • Must be able to repetitively grasp, push, pull, bend, stretch, and stoop.
  • Must be able to stand/walk 100% of the scheduled work day.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and to interact appropriately with coworkers, hospital personnel, patients, visitors, and management.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to count accurately and do simple math.
  • Must be very dependable and punctual.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and overtime where necessary by the demands of the business.

Primary Job Duties:
  • Performs staffing requirements to ensure accurate and timely delivery of clean linen to all units within the Hospital.
  • Maintains employee scheduling, timekeeping and attendance in the time & attendance system. Ensures employees comply with all safety, personnel and HR policies and procedures.
  • Actively supervises the operation of the in-house linen system, both clean delivery and soiled laundry pickup.
  • Oversees clean linen distribution and soiled linen collection process
  • Communicates with hospital departments: administration, nursing, housekeeping, etc.
  • Conducts daily linen room inventory and determines linen order requirements
  • Maintains daily linen usage data by department
  • Recommends and implements linen management and cost reduction measures
  • Surveys hospital daily for quality assurance; reviews with Shared Hospital Services Customer Service Manager as needed
  • Represents Shared Hospital Services and the hospital in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Must agree to have a background check performed and meet guidelines to be eligible for hire.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing to be eligible for hire.

All other duties as may be assigned by management
