Job description

Description:

Make Waves in Competitive Swimming: Assistant Swim Coach Wanted!

Are you passionate about developing the next generation of elite swimmers? The Danvers YMCA Dolfins, a premier youth swim team and partner to the renowned Swimm with Timm program, is looking for a dynamic Assistant Swim Coach to join our growing team.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Tom Phillips (formerly of Commonwealth Swimming and current Merrimack College Assistant Coach), the Dolfins have seen explosive growth. In just one season, we’ve seen an 8-fold increase in championship qualifiers. We don’t just "run laps"; we build athletes.

Why Coach With Us?

Most swim clubs treat coaches as seasonal help. At the Dolfins and Swimm with Timm, we treat coaching as a professional career. We know that to take care of our swimmers, we must first take care of you.

  • Starting Rate: $18/hour during training, moving to $20–$26/hour once you’re on the deck!
  • Work/Life Balance: Up to 4 weeks of time off between sessions to recharge.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision for those working 20+ hours (we pay 80% of individual premiums!).
  • Future Planning: 401k Safe Harbor Plan with a company match after one year.
  • Professional Development: We provide on-the-job training and cover the costs for required coaching certifications.

Where You’ll Be

  • Primary Location: Danvers, MA (Danvers Community YMCA)
  • Note: Reliable transportation is a must for travel between locations as needed
Requirements:

About YOU

You balance technical expertise with high-energy leadership. You love the thrill of a meet but value the hard work of a Tuesday night practice.

  • Experience: High School Diploma and 2+ years of swim coaching experience (3–5 years of competitive swimming or coaching is strongly preferred).
  • Certifications: You have (or are willing to obtain) CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding certs. You must also be willing to obtain USA Swimming and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming credentials.
  • Leadership: You’re ready to lead training groups, develop seasonal goals, and mentor swimmers from Age Group to Seniors.
  • The "Must-Haves": Punctuality and reliability are non-negotiable. Our athletes succeed because their coaches show up ready to work!

The Role & Functions

This is a part-time position (20–25 hours per week) running from September through July.

  • Lead Training: Direct daily practices and coach at 15–25 swim meets throughout the year.
  • Technical Focus: Collaborate with Head Coach Tom Phillips to implement plans that help swimmers "Swimm Smarter, Not Harder."
  • Mentorship: Build nurturing relationships with swimmers and maintain professional communication with parents.
  • Safety: Maintain constant supervision of all athletes to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

Ready to make a splash with the Dolfins?

Join a program where the foundation is strong, the waiting list is long, and the potential is limitless. Help us transform foundation skills into championship finishes.

Timm Swimm Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. All hires must pass a clean CORI/SORI background check.
