Job description

Millions of children and adults have begun their swimming journey at the YMCA. It is our mission to help them build confidence with every stroke and to provide a safe and secure environment. As a member of the Meadowlands YMCA aquatics team you will take on the invaluable role of protecting our swimmers.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Meadowlands YMCA has a fast growing swim team that swims year round. The assistant coach will provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for those enrolled in our team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts practices on a regular basis for swimmers ranging from beginner to senior levels and attends both regular season and championship meets.
  • Assist Head Coach in planning training and swim meet schedule, executing entries, facilitating running tryouts and hosted meets.
  • Work with coaching staff to develop and run training to develop, retain, and bring out the potential of all levels of swimmers. Sensitivity to needs of population served. Have passion for swimming and swimmers of all levels.
  • Communicates with Aquatic Director, swim team, coaches, parents, volunteers, and community to inform of practices, meets, and other swimming related events.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events as requested
  • Proficient with computer software including Hy-tek Team Manager, Meet Manager and other general computer skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required
  • All other miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned by supervisor

  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification required
  • Must have experience coaching a swim team and /or a competitive swimmer.
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • YMCA or Red Cross Swim Instructor certification preferred
  • YMCA Coach Certification or within 60 days
  • US Swim Certification or within 60 days
  • Must have experience coaching a swim team
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child
