Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:


The Assistant Warehouse Supervisor supports the Warehouse Manager in overseeing daily warehouse operations, ensuring efficient workflow, accuracy, and compliance with safety and company standards. This role involves supervising staff, coordinating inventory activities, and maintaining a safe, organized, and productive environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in managing day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping.
  2. Supervise and support warehouse associates during assigned shifts.
  3. Help ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment and inventory movement.
  4. Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and audits.
  5. Investigate discrepancies and support resolution efforts.
  6. Accurately completes truck shipping documentation (bills of lading)
  7. Assist Supervisor onboarding new employees.
  8. Operate sit-down and stand-up forklift.
  9. Performs forklift training of employees as needed.
  10. Check the weekly inventory of packing supplies and orders when quantity is low.
  11. Maintains current knowledge of the commercial shipping industry.
  12. Maintains working knowledge of all subordinate positions in the warehouse.
  13. Actively demonstrates teamwork.
  14. Works with Print/Production supervisory staff to ensure efficient use of warehouse space.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Technical Knowledge:

Requires a thorough knowledge of a given vocation or trade procedures, or a working knowledge of broad shop or trade procedures, or training in commonly used commercial business machines, methods and practices.


Additional Skills Needed:

  1. High school graduate preferred. GED acceptable with equivalent work experience
  2. Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory control, and logistics processes.
  3. Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory software
  4. Basic math required
  5. Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  6. General knowledge in shipping procedures
  7. Forklift certification preferred


Experience:

One year up to 3 years


Supervision of Others:

The position is responsible for orienting and training others and assigning and reviewing their work. May also be responsible for acting in a “lead” or “senior” capacity over other positions performing the same work or related technical tasks and reporting to a higher level on a formal basis.


Problem Solving:

Involves the gathering, accumulating, and/or compiling of information, facts and figures and/or the systematic use and rearrangement of factual data, and/or organizing time, equipment and materials for self and others.


Impact of Decisions:

Work involves opportunities for judgment errors which would result in substantial added costs or reduced efficiency within and between functional units until corrected – usually requires longer time.


Internal and Public Contacts:

Inside the organization, to coordinate activities, discuss problems, present factual data, etc. and/or outside the organization with specific persons and/or agencies, usually of a service nature or pertaining to routine situations.


Physical Factors and Working Conditions:

Works in fast-moving environment warehouse and is always on the go. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus, either corrective or uncorrected. Works indoors within a warehouse environment most of the time and occasionally outdoors. May be exposed to seasonal conditions, such as extreme heat in the summer or low temperatures in winter. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop; kneel; crouch; use of hands to fingers; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally, do heavy lifting up to 70 lbs. Regularly lift to 35 lbs. Incumbent may be exposed to dust and other particles that may irritate eyes, noise, and skin. Employee occasionally exposed to loud noises from forklifts, trucks, or other machinery. Possible injury may result from falling off ladders. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the physical demands of the job.
