Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Assistant Swimming Coach working with both the Men's and Women's teams. The position is a full-time 10-month appointment with flexibility to set work hours appropriate to the needs of the program. The position also includes a generous benefits package.

The Assistant Swimming Coach will provide assistance for the Head Coach in all areas associated with creating and sustaining a championship environment and program. Duties of primary importance will include: 1) recruiting - identifying prospective student-athletes who meet Kenyon College's academic standards; contacting (email, phone, mail, social media) prospective recruits, families, and coaches; arranging campus visits for recruits; and developing recruiting materials, 2) on-deck coaching, and 3) student-athlete advising. Additional duties will include: strength training and conditioning, data collection and management, arranging travel, tracking equipment, and managing budgets. Other assignments will be defined by the Head Coach and / or Director of Athletics. Candidates should exemplify leadership in the management of a successful collegiate swimming program and also show a strong desire to pursue a career in collegiate coaching at the NCAA Division I, II or III level.

It is also expected that the Assistant Swimming Coach will embrace the department mission of fostering learning and developing community with a focus on the values of citizenship, competition, resiliency, sportsmanship, and teamwork within Kenyon's unique campus culture.
Successful candidates will be able to show a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their support for students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, and national backgrounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain a competitive program.
  • Recruit academically and athletically strong applicants for admission in the selective, highly competitive application pool at Kenyon College utilizing Front Rush software,including preparing promotional materials.
  • Design and develop training program and workouts (depending on candidate's experience), practice and game-day coaching, including set-up and tear-down of practice equipment.
  • Mentor student athletes.
  • Work with Athletics Communications to develop promotional and recruiting material.
  • Assist with statistics verification for official records and sports information.
  • Work in conjunction with athletic trainers to maintain student-athlete welfare.
  • Stay up-to-date with sport and coaching best practices in order to provide opportunities for all involved in the program to become students of the game by sharing knowledge of the sport.
  • All coaches are assigned additional duties in the areas of facility and event /game management and teaching. These responsibilities are determined annually by Game / Event Manager, Facility Manager(s) and Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.

Other Expectations:

  • Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing 1800 undergraduate students.
  • Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
  • Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.
  • Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
  • Assist with special projects and duties, as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College's and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics' student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and College mission statements.

Working Conditions:

  • Some heavy lifting / moving equipment is required.
  • The working schedule is not traditional nor regular: early morning, day, late evenings,

  • Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
  • The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
