About the Opportunity

The Senior Medical Editor is assigned to support a portfolio of client accounts, and partners with Medical & Scientific Services, Project Management, Account Services, and Creative Services teams to ensure Citrus deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for quality assurance throughout project lifecycles, providing proofreading, copyediting, styling, and formatting services for the full range of client deliverables on assigned accounts. Formats may include Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Creative layouts, and digital or multimedia content. This role may include mentorship of editors and Citrus colleagues, adoption of and training on processes and technology, and other responsibilities as designated. Core responsibilities and qualifications are noted as follows.

This role does not require an in-office presence and is open to candidates within the United States or Canada.

Core Responsibilities

Editorial Review

  • Edit for flow and structure, copyedit, and style all forms of deliverables for medical affairs, commercial, patient and payor communications, and publications teams. Examples of deliverables include (but are not limited to) manuscripts, EndNote libraries, figures, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, slides, meeting materials, brochures, mailings and handouts, video scripts, websites, and other print and digital assets
  • Proofread Creative poster layouts against poster templates and congress guidelines, annotate amends for Creative, and/or incorporate text changes into layout
  • Conduct pre- and post-Creative review for all Creative assets at defined stages of the project lifecycle
  • Propose adjustments to content layout and design elements, for appropriateness and consistency with client brief and style
  • Collaborate with Medical & Scientific Services team to verify accuracy and completeness of content via fact check of data points and close review of reference lists
  • Develop and maintain style guidelines for your assigned clients that meet with client standards and expectations; align with client corporate and brand style guidelines, agency style guidelines, American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style, and all Citrus editorial, publication, and ethical procedures
  • Serve as subject-matter expert regarding client and agency style, AMA style, structure, grammar, usage, and congress and journal standards
  • Identify project areas that may require expertise from other team members and elicit input as appropriate
  • Assist colleagues with editorial problem-solving, troubleshooting, and brainstorming

Process Management and Delivery

  • Attend product status meetings to keep abreast of upcoming or in-progress editorial projects, and to track congress status
  • Apply project management techniques to planning and scheduling work, in partnership with Account, Project Management, and Creative colleagues; obtain comprehensive project briefs, querying as necessary for clarity and understanding of requirements, due dates, and budget constraints; safeguard scope of delivery, timelines, and resourcing; communicate progress, risks, and dependencies
  • Proactively collaborate with Creative, Account, and Project Management partners throughout the project lifecycle to manage schedules, communicate revised requirements, and ensure quality and timeliness of delivery
  • Intake and delivery for all Editorial project requests; communicate project briefs and timeline expectations; liaise with Creative partners to prioritize and plan for delivery

Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to junior editors and to all Citrus colleagues on the editorial process
  • Review editor's work and provide positive, supportive, and constructive feedback
  • Identify training needs and work with colleagues to develop and deliver training

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7+ years of progressive professional medical or science editing experience
    • The following active credentials are considered a plus: Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS), Certified Medical Publication Professional (ISMPP CMPP)
  • Strong familiarity with MS Office Suite (especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (especially Acrobat), EndNote, GraphPad Prism, and medical literature databases (eg, PubMed)
  • Strong familiarity with the following is considered a plus: Veeva annotations; Google analytics, SEO strategies; copyright requirements and familiarity with requesting and purchasing figure/table use permissions
  • Experience in mock journal and congress submissions and in collating a list of requirements needed for submission
  • Experience in submitting abstracts to congresses and manuscripts to journals
  • Ability to prioritize projects, collaborate on team projects, and coordinate and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to serve many therapeutic teams and meet project goals
  • Ability to acquire relevant information from a variety of sources (eg, published style manuals, journal guidelines, and literature searches) and maintain accurate records of sources
  • Excellent knowledge of grammar, usage, and medical writing style guidelines (such as the AMA Manual of Style)
  • Familiarity with general scientific and medical concepts and ability to grasp more complex scientific and medical applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Effective attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify key issues and creatively and strategically overcome challenges
