Job description

Employment type: Contract, remote (must be located in and authorized to work in the United States). Schedule: Flexible teaching opportunities Monday–Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Session length: Typically 30–40 minutes per small-group lesson (up to four students). Compensation: Up to $24/hour.

Grounded in the Science of Reading, the program partners with schools to accelerate student literacy development and provides tutors with a structured curriculum, coaching, and professional development. Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured, engaging small-group reading lessons via Zoom for up to four elementary students, following provided step-by-step curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Maintain instructional fidelity to structured literacy and Science of Reading approaches.
  • Administer and record routine assessments, monitor student progress, and document outcomes using established tools and reporting procedures.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to students and school partners to support continuous growth.
  • Create and sustain a positive, orderly virtual learning environment that supports student engagement and learning.
  • Participate in required training, curriculum orientation, and periodic coaching to ensure consistent instructional quality.
  • Maintain professional communication and reliability with scheduling, attendance, and session preparation.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Authorization to work in the United States and residence within the U.S.
  • Proficiency with Zoom and common digital teaching tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to connect effectively with elementary-aged students.
  • Dependability in meeting scheduled sessions and maintaining professional standards in a remote instructional setting.

Preferred qualifications (not required):

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Degree or coursework in education, literacy, English, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching early reading, phonics, or K–3 instruction and familiarity with structured literacy methods.
