About This Role

The Occupational Therapist will conduct individual and group occupational therapy for patients who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or ADHD. The occupational therapist will help individuals build skills associated with sensory management and education for patients with mental illness and neurodivergence.

The Occupational Therapist will also provide group psychoeducational programs to individuals who enroll for non-clinical sensory education courses.


What You'll Do
  • Virtually evaluates patients and develops care plans for patients to determine appropriateness for occupational therapy services.
  • Coordinates care with psychiatrist, mental health therapist and other care team members
  • Creates and develops care plans for patients who have been referred for occupational therapy for autism spectrum disorder and other, similar diagnoses
  • Evaluates and provides treatment interventions within the scope of practice established by the states where the occupational therapist holds licensure.
  • Implements affirming practices to encourage patients to find activities that they are excited to engage in
  • Counsels clients and patients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.
  • Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies
  • Prepares and maintains detailed treatment records and reports.
  • Evaluates clients’ physical or mental condition based on review of client information.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Acts as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Appropriate education in occupational therapy with qualification and licensure in the states required for clinical services.
  • Ability to run group occupational therapy and psychoeducational (non-clinical) programs virtually
  • Licensure in Florida preferred but can be arranged if not available currently
  • Strong oral communication skills to counsel and advise patients
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective treatment plans
  • Coaching skills to help patients make positive changes
  • Organization skills to maintain up-to-date, easy-to-navigate patient files
  • Familiarity with privacy, health and safety laws
  • Computer skills to operate record keeping, scheduling, email and word processing software
  • Experience with affirming care programs that focus on supportive programs rather than programs designed to “mainstream” patients

Education and Experience:
  • Appropriate licensure in occupational therapy
  • Multi-state licensure (or willingness to apply for additional licenses) strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
