What Does an Assistant Psychologist Do?

As an assistant psychologist, your responsibilities involve supporting a psychologist with clinical, research, or administrative tasks. You work under a more senior psychologist to evaluate a patient and their treatment plan, conduct assessments, and administer other testing as needed. Staff psychologists may then use your reports to decide on treatment for a patient. Assistant psychologists are often newly licensed psychologists. This position is similar to a psychology assistant, who may be in the process of earning their degree and license in psychology.

Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and multidisciplinary teams set standout candidates apart. These skills and qualifications ensure effective support for psychologists, high-quality client care, and accurate data handling in mental health settings.

Job description

Overview

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.

Description

Marcus Autism Center, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and Emory University School of Medicine are conducting a search for an outstanding BCBA-D with specialization in behavior analysis to provide clinical care, oversight, and support in one of Marcus' specialty treatment clinics that serve children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Marcus delivers an array of programs and services within three different treatment clinics that each target specific challenges associated with an ASD diagnosis (i.e., Severe Behavior, Skill Acquisition, and Feeding). The BCBA-D will join a multidisciplinary treatment team that may include professionals from nursing, psychiatry, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and/or care coordination. Successful candidates will be well-trained and should possess a PhD and be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral level (BCBA-D). Ideal candidates will have clinical training/background in applied behavior analysis and psychology with experience in the assessment and treatment of challenges related to an ASD diagnosis such as challenging behavior, skill acquisition, and/or feeding disorders.
