Job description

Position Title: Technical Writer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Writer to support federal government programs in Huntsville. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in proposal development, technical documentation, engineering and construction-related deliverables, and federal acquisition processes. This role requires the ability to develop high-quality written materials supporting facilities, logistics, engineering, and operational programs while collaborating closely with program managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
The Technical Writer will be responsible for developing, editing, organizing, and maintaining technical and administrative documentation including proposals, solicitations, manuals, reports, presentations, and corporate materials. Candidates must possess exceptional writing and editing skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical and administrative documentation for federal government programs.
  • Create Statements of Work (SOW), Performance Work Statements (PWS), Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFP), and Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) using organizational templates and customer requirements.
  • Support proposal development efforts by organizing technical sections, tables, exhibits, graphics, attachments, and formatting deliverables.
  • Review, proofread, standardize, and edit solicitation responses and technical documents prepared by peers and proposal team members.
  • Coordinate closely with Facilities and Logistics Services Support Teams to manage schedules, milestones, and submission deadlines.
  • Collaborate with program/project managers, engineers, and technical personnel to gather requirements and ensure document accuracy and compliance.
  • Observe operational, developmental, and production activities to document procedures, workflows, and equipment operations.
  • Review technical drawings, engineering specifications, manufacturer catalogs, and related documentation to support operational and maintenance publications.
  • Assist in developing executive-level briefings, presentations, brochures, technical papers, and marketing materials.
  • Update and maintain content for corporate websites and organizational communications.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with customer requirements, organizational standards, and federal acquisition guidelines.
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and quality.

Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of technical and proposal writing experience supporting Federal Government programs, preferably in design, engineering, construction, facilities, or logistics environments.
  • Strong understanding of Federal acquisition and contracting processes including RFI, RFP, RFQ, SOW, PWS, and GWAC documentation.
  • 5+ years of advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and communicate it clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal civilian agency contracts.
  • Familiarity with facilities operations, engineering documentation, logistics support, or construction management.
  • Experience supporting executive briefings and proposal color team reviews.
  • Knowledge of branding, layout design, and technical graphics development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Facility Management certification preferred
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or federal government facilities
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs, real property accountability, and space management processes
  • Experience coordinating contractors, maintenance vendors, and facility support personnel
  • Knowledge of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) program requirements and quality assurance processes
