Job description

Job Overview: Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager. Depending on the size and scope of the project, an Assistant Project Manager may perform nearly all functions of a Project Manager. On other projects they may be expected to perform the duties of a Project Engineer in an enhanced capacity. The intent of this role is to prepare the individual to move into the Project Manager position.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural steel install and/or fabrication
  • Background in construction, preferably structural steel, with ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, bid documents, and contracts
  • Assist with defining scope of work and deliverables for assigned projects
  • Participate in project estimate reviews, provide input
    • Assist with communicating appropriate budget and hours information to superintendent to hold them accountable for what is in their control
  • Attend and/or facilitate job specific meetings
  • Become the expert on scope of work for all assigned projects. Understand the contract drawings, shop drawings, and help manage changes in design.
  • Work with the Project Manager and shop to ensure material arrives on site to support the project schedule
  • Depending on project, may be responsible for submitting and/or managing RFIs
  • Depending on project, may be responsible for submittals, either actively reviewing and submitting them to the client, or managing the process
  • When necessary, solicit pricing from vendors and/or subcontractors, assess, select, and manage their contract, scope, budget, and schedule
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Use computer programs such as Navisworks, Trimble, Bluebeam, Vista, Microsoft Office Products, Tekla, etc.
  • Be a team player and support the project team; we wear many hats and do whatever is needed to ensure the project success!

Physical Demands:
An Assistant Project Manager may be required to go on occasional field walks, as the project requires. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasionally required to utilize fall protection harness and work from heights. Must lift 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
