Description
The Department of Political Science at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in American Politics. This position would begin in Fall 2027. The department is interested in applicants with expertise in American political institutions, American elections, and/or American political behavior. Successful candidates will have a strong record of demonstrated research excellence. Additional duties include fostering inclusive teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, conducting a program of research, and participating in faculty governance at the departmental, college, and university levels.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship
  • Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Political Science or a closely related field conferred by August 31, 2027.
  • Research work applying cutting-edge approaches to problems in American Politics.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated record of the following, as evidenced by the applicant's CV, letters of recommendation, and supporting materials:
    • Record of producing high-quality research
    • Strong research background and training
    • Strong publication record
    • Research interests in political behavior, American politics, or comparative politics
    • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
