Job description

Job Title: Production Operator
Location: Mt. Vernon, IN
Pay Rate: $27.00/hr
Assignment Duration:  3 Months (Contract)
Schedule: 12-Hour Rotating Shifts (2-2-3 schedule; rotates between days and nights every two weeks)
The Opportunity
Join a high-volume manufacturing team at an expansive 88-acre production site in Mt. Vernon. As we undergo significant facility expansions and increase our warehouse operations, we are looking for four motivated Production Operators to support our peak demand season. This is a fast-paced role perfect for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and want to be part of a growing industrial operation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Production Support: Assist in the manufacturing of residential and commercial roofing products (shingle and rolled goods).
  • Packaging & Finishing: Place cores into finished product rolls, use handheld carton-closing devices, and secure materials on skids to ensure stability for transport.
  • Quality Inspection: Inspect all packaging materials for damage or defects prior to bagging.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain a neat and orderly work area (5S/Housekeeping) and assist with department clean-up during maintenance shutdowns.
  • Safety First: Adhere to all safety protocols and contribute to a continuous improvement environment.


Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Attitude: A positive, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Availability: Must be able to work the 2-2-3 rotating schedule (36 hours one week, 48 hours the next), including both day and night shifts.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Physical Strength: Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 80 lbs. with a partner.
  • Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb industrial ladders, and navigate catwalks/stairs.
  • Dexterity: Comfort using hands/fingers to handle tools and reaching/bending to move materials.
  • Environment: Must be comfortable working near moving mechanical parts and in a facility that uses fiberglass and asphalt (within OSHA safety limits).
  • PPE: Ability to wear all required safety gear, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and head protection.
