Job description

Our client is seeking a highly detail-oriented Technical Production Designer (Packaging & Prepress) to join a fast-paced production team supporting packaging and product manufacturing initiatives. This role is ideal for a technically minded designer who thrives in precision-based production work and understands how to translate mockups into accurate, factory-ready production files. The ideal candidate combines strong production design expertise with an engineering-style mindset - someone who is comfortable working with measurements, materials, dielines, print specifications, scaling, and packaging construction. This person will play a critical role in ensuring all packaging artwork, templates, and production files are executed accurately, approved on time, and delivered to manufacturing partners without errors. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and a passion for process accuracy and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Create accurate, production-ready packaging templates and technical artwork files with extreme attention to detail
  • Translate mockups and creative concepts into precise manufacturing specifications and factory-ready production files
  • Ensure all templates include correct production details including dimensions, material specifications, ink usage, Pantone/color matching, folding instructions, and print requirements
  • Review and analyze mockups prior to production build to identify potential concerns related to scale, materials, color, pattern alignment, or production feasibility
  • Measure packaging components and physical samples to ensure accurate sizing, fit, and structural consistency
  • Develop and maintain standardized sizing systems and production specifications across packaging programs
  • Print, proof, and quality check all production files to verify accuracy prior to release
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, production, sales, and prepress teams to ensure creative intent and manufacturing requirements are aligned
  • Maintain highly organized digital production files and documentation within shared server systems
  • Participate in internal quality control and peer review processes to ensure all files meet production standards
  • Communicate proactively regarding potential production risks, process improvements, and cost-saving opportunities
  • Support production timelines by managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and consistency
  • Assist in documenting production learnings, technical specifications, and process updates for future reference

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in production design (not creative), packaging production and templates, prepress, or technical design
  • Strong understanding of packaging production workflows, print production, and manufacturing specifications
  • Experience creating production-ready artwork, dielines, templates, and mechanical files
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience working with measurements, scaling, material specifications, and packaging structures
  • Strong knowledge of color matching, Pantone systems, print setup, and production accuracy standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies and troubleshoot production concerns proactively
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with international production or prepress teams is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field preferred
