Job description

Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Coordinate the overall operation of the swimming lesson program. Supervise and directs swimming lesson instructors. Assess performance of instructors and complete session evaluations.

Collaborate with Pool Managers and Recreation Supervisor on scheduling swimming lessons adhering to proper student/teacher ratio. Keep accurate records of registration, participant skills completion, and other program related paperwork (reports: accident/ incident, theft, bloodborne). Perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking pool sites and monitoring pool deck, locker rooms/ bathrooms, lobby, and hallways.

Initiate communication to management staff, including pool managers, daily regarding concerns, safety, needs, successes, and functional support. Provide high level of leadership. Serve as a positive role model to the participants and staff.

Encourage children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement. Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment. Teach swim classes, as needed.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Shall wear distinctive clothing or other means of identification per the City of Appleton Dress Code. Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationship with fellow staff members, management staff, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.

Attend all required staff meetings and trainings. Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff to ensure all department and City of Appleton rules, policies, and procedures are observed and enforced. Report directly to and perform any other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor.

Issues certificates on the last day of class. Assist multiple session enrollees with class changes and transfers and communicate with administrative staff of Appleton Parks and Recreation or Recreation Supervisor. Typical Qualifications Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR and WSI Certificate preferred.

Ability to effectively coordinate and direct the activities of the swimming lesson program. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively supervise and train swimming instructors.

Strong skills in: customer service, oral and written communication, and leadership. Ability and/ or experience to work with varied age groups, including children. Effective decision-making skills.

Ability to take direction. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. Able to work duration of the program as assigned.

Shall wear Park and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code. Supplemental Information Employment Season: Fall and Winter Work Location: East and West Pool (Jan- April, Sept- Nov) Pay Grade: 4 Education Level Required: High School Graduate/GED
