Job description

Starting Pay
$11.75 per hour
Summary
The Assistant Pool Manager supports the Pool Manager in supervising up to 22 pool employees. Responsibilities include facility cleaning and maintenance, daily cash handling, monitoring concessions, and completing required documentation. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Patron Safety: Ensure the safety of all patrons through preventive lifeguarding and by enforcing all pool rules and regulations.
  • Assist Pool Manager with organization of public and private pool parties.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service and set a positive example for employees.
  • Staff Supervision: Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff. Enforce policies outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Emergency Response: Respond appropriately to emergency situations and assist in performing necessary procedures.
  • Cash Handling: Ensure daily accounting of money and accurate cash reports.
  • Concessions Management: Monitor concessions, including daily inventory and balancing of cash transactions.
  • Training: Conduct daily in-service training to ensure staff maintains monthly training hours for licensing.
  • Documentation: Document staff or patron infractions and counseling sessions as needed.
  • Facility Maintenance: Assist with daily cleaning duties and perform small mechanical repairs as directed.
  • Communication: Coordinate with fellow supervisors to resolve issues during shifts.
  • Promotion and Marketing: Submit ideas for creative marketing to boost public attendance and assist with promoting special programs.
  • Work during special events outside of the pool.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Pool Manager or Aquatic Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pool maintenance and mechanical operations preferred (training available).
  • Must be at least 18 years old (preference given to applicants 21 and older).
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must complete American Red Cross Training (provided by the City).
  • Availability to work varied shifts between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
  • Reliable transportation to work sites.
  • Commitment to work from March through the end of August.
  • Willingness to work at Thompson Park and Warford Activity Center Pool
  • No vacations or leaves of absence allowed without prior approval and shift coverage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to lift approximately 20 - 30 pounds.
  • Skills Pretest Requirements:
    • 150-yard swim.
    • Tread water for 2 minutes (without using hands).
    • Retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7 feet of water.
    • Ability to manage employees and lead by example.
    • Basic understanding of pool maintenance and mechanical operations.
    • Ability to interpret, explain, and enforce pool policies and procedures.
    • At least one year of experience in a similar role, preferably involving public interaction.
