We're looking for an experienced Payroll & Billing Accountantwho understands the unique demands of payroll and accounting within a commercial construction environment.

This role requires hands-on field payroll experience supporting a commercial general contractor. The ideal candidate understands construction payroll, field labor, job costing and project-based accounting and has experience working in Sage 300 CRE and/or CMiC Enterprise, including Field Payroll (Field PR). We're looking for someone who understands how payroll connects to field operations, labor allocation, job costing and project financials and can work effectively with project teams, field personnel and accounting leadership.

What You’ll Do

Field Payroll & Construction Payroll

  • Process accurate and timely field payroll for employees working across multiple commercial construction projects.
  • Manage weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles, including field labor and project-based payroll.
  • Review and reconcile timesheets, labor hours, labor allocations and job cost coding across active projects.
  • Ensure field labor is accurately assigned to the appropriate jobs, cost codes and projects.
  • Work directly with field teams, Project Managers and other operational personnel to resolve payroll and timekeeping discrepancies.
  • Manage payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, garnishments and other payroll-related requirements.
  • Support payroll reporting, reconciliations, audits and compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate payroll information within Sage 300 CRE and/or CMiC Enterprise and Field PR.

Billing & Project Accounting

  • Prepare owner invoices, progress billings and AIA billings for commercial construction projects.
  • Partner with Project Managers on contract billing, job costing and change order tracking.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and collections.
  • Maintain accurate job cost and project accounting records.
  • Reconcile payroll and labor costs to project financials.
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting activities.

Construction Operations Support

  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for field employees and project teams on payroll, timekeeping and job cost questions.
  • Coordinate with operations and accounting teams to ensure accurate labor reporting across projects.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies before they affect payroll or project financial reporting.
  • Support employee onboarding, payroll setup, records and related administrative processes.
  • Help maintain accurate, efficient processes as the company and its project portfolio continue to grow.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must currently reside in Tennessee within commuting distance of Nashville.
  • Previous experience working for a commercial general contractor is required.
  • Hands-on field payroll experience in a commercial construction environment is essential.
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE and/or CMiC Enterprise and Field Payroll (Field PR).
  • Strong understanding of construction payroll, field labor allocation and job costing.
  • Experience supporting payroll across multiple projects, cost codes and/or field teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet payroll and billing deadlines.
  • Professional, team-oriented communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both field and office personnel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with CMiC Enterprise and CMiC Field PR.
  • Direct experience with Sage 300 CRE payroll and construction accounting.
  • Experience with AIA billing, progress billing, job costing and project accounting.
  • Experience supporting payroll for multiple active commercial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of construction-specific payroll requirements and reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
  • Previous HR administration experience.
