ASSISTANT OPERATIONS MANAGER - RECREATION DEPARTMENT
CLOSING DATE: May 31, 2026
PAY RANGE: $23.38 - $33.90/hour depending on experience and qualifications with starting wage not typically above the mid-point of the range ($28.64).
DEPARTMENT: Recreation
BENEFITS SUMMARY:
JOB SUMMARY
Directs the organization, scheduling, and operations of concessions at Center Court, Vet's Ballpark, and Sports Park, as well as management of the Legacy Center day care and fitness programs. Manages staff and resources to ensure high-quality service delivery and operational efficiency across these areas. Supports the Operations Manager in daily activities to maintain facility standards and customer satisfaction.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Functions:
Directs all operational aspects of concessions, day care, and fitness program areas, actively monitoring activities to ensure high-quality service and efficient performance.
Secures and maintains all necessary state licenses required for concessions and day care operations, acting as the official licensee responsible for compliance and renewals.
Oversees recruitment, hiring, supervision, discipline, and evaluation of personnel in Center Court and provides supervisory support of those functions for concessions, day care, and fitness areas; coordinates scheduling to meet service demands and organizational needs. Supervises the Fitness Coordinator in staff management functions.
Manages financial operations by conducting regular cash balancing and reconciliation of tills and payments; supports concession staff with daily balancing procedures; collaborates with the Operations Manager and Finance Department regarding general ledger accounts and refund processing. Prepares and submits detailed reports to inform management of financial projections and outcomes.
Maintains security and general upkeep of all concession stands, day care areas, and related equipment. Oversees inventory control, orders replacements, and ensures a safe, clean environment through routine safety inspections. Collaborates with the Fitness Coordinator to recommend and procure necessary fitness equipment.
Assists in budget development by providing expenditure and revenue forecasts; monitors ongoing expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with budget guidelines. Oversees revenue collection and initiates preparation of bank deposits.
Plans and coordinates catering services for facility events as assigned, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
Responds to phone inquiries and provides basic information; efficiently operates computers and various office equipment including copy machines and scanners.
Supports the Operations Manager in day-to-day operations to uphold quality service standards.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
A. Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, or related field.
AND
B. Two (2) years' experience performing above or related duties.
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques in operating concessions, day care, and customer service; community and public relations; budgeting processes and general accounting; working knowledge of the operation of computers and various software applications including spreadsheet, word processing, budgeting, etc.
Ability to develop, organize and implement various facility operation tasks, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other organizations, and the public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Special Qualifications
Must possess a valid driver's license. Current certification in first aid, CPR, and food handling required.
Work Environment
Incumbent of the position performs in a climate-controlled environment and in concession areas with the associated equipment and stresses of customer demands. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, etc. Communicating, i.e. talking, hearing, and seeing, is essential to job effectiveness. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instruction, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
