Job description

(confidential, seafood & fishing industry) seeks an Assistant Operations Manager in Vancouver, BC. Full-Time. Experience: 5+ years. Salary: $75,000-$95,000 CAD to start, with flexibility to stretch for the right candidate, plus milestone pay increases, year-end bonuses, RRSP matching, a full benefits package, and employee discounts on seafood.

Overview: A confidential, well-established seafood processing and logistics operation in BC's wild seafood industry seeks a highly motivated, hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to support the Senior Vice President of Operations with day-to-day execution of logistics, fleet coordination, and plant operations. The right candidate is currently working on fishing vessels as a fishing professional — fisherman, deckhand, or similar — and is ready to transition from the water to the docks. This is not a desk-only role: you'll be in the warehouse, on the dock, coordinating freight, solving real-time issues, and building relationships with fishermen and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

- Coordinate delivery of fish, bait, and supplies between vessels, docks, and processing plants

- Support scheduling and logistics for active commercial fishing vessels

- Work closely with the Senior VP of Operations to ensure smooth operations across the fleet and plant

- Assist with organizing freight movement across the coast (trucks, shipments, etc.)

- Jump in hands-on with production and warehouse teams as needed (unloading, palletizing, etc.)

- Operate (or be trained to operate) a forklift

- Maintain strong communication with fishermen, suppliers, and internal departments

- Support order assembly and ensure accuracy of outgoing shipments

- Handle real-time problem solving when logistical issues arise

- Perform administrative and coordination tasks including data entry and documentation

Must-Have Qualifications:

- Direct, hands-on experience working aboard commercial fishing vessels (e.g., fisherman, deckhand, vessel crew) — required

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- High level of initiative, accountability, and self-motivation

- Ability to operate autonomously and think ahead (foresight)

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

- Team-oriented with a hands-on mindset

- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities

Nice-to-Have:

- Experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain

- Forklift experience (or willingness to obtain certification)

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Work Environment & Schedule: Monday to Friday with flexible hours (typically ~8:00am-4:30pm); occasional weekend work during peak seasons; split between office, plant floor, warehouse, and dock environments; highly dynamic — no two days are the same.

Compensation & Why Join: Starting salary $75,000-$95,000 CAD with flexibility to stretch for the right candidate; regular milestone-based performance review pay increases; year-end bonuses; company RRSP matching program (available to eligible employees after an initial qualifying period); full benefits package; employee discounts on seafood; opportunity to grow into a larger operational leadership role over time; long-term career stability in a niche, essential industry.
