Description
The Business Office at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Budget Analyst position.
Examples of Duties
  • Assist with the preparation, consolidation, and distribution of the annual budget documents
  • Prepare and analyze reports of operating revenues and expenditures for university departments and divisions as well as external entities.
  • Review and approve personnel forms, budget adjustments, and other transactions as needed for the operations of the university.
  • Utilize available software applications to develop and maintain budget reports and analyses to identify variances as well as compile and update statistical data.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and written using email, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Interpret the fiscal evaluation of proposed legislation and its relationship to the University's forecast of revenues and expenditures.
  • Counsel departments on preparing budgets based on actual performance, previous budget figures, estimated revenue, expense reports and other factors.
  • Research and analyze factors and trends applicable to higher education that impact the university's budgets.
  • Assist the Executive Director in developing long-range revenue and expenditure forecasts models.
  • Recommend and implement university budget policies and procedures.
  • Assist with training of department and division budget liaisons.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee records and data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, required, from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Have at least three (3) years of budget experience preferably in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of integrated database systems, Banner Finance and Human Resource Modules, preferred
  • Must be proficient with the use of word processing and spreadsheet software applications, presentation software, and knowledge of the use of database applications i.e., Microsoft Access, preferred.
