GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Merchant Assistant provides support to our buyers in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.As a Merchant Assistant you will function as a liaison between buyers and internal and external business partners. The ideal Merchant Assistant is resourceful, a problem solver, well organized, a good communicator, and a team player. You are responsible for key steps in our end-to-end business processes which include, but are not limited to supplier set up, SKU creation, PO creation, marketing, billing, and customer support. This role is a steppingstone to other careers within Family Dollar Merchandising.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become a subject matter expert in your business category.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with your buying team(s), your fellow MAs, and cross-functional business partners.
  • Prepare for team and cross-functional meetings by prepping materials that support the agenda.
  • Actively contribute during meetings by sharing insights, providing updates, taking notes, and managing next steps.
  • Accountable for key responsibilities in the supplier, SKU, and purchase order creation and maintenance processes.
  • Act a project manager to ensure deadlines are met; kick off the process with workflow submissions and follow up as requested throughout the process.
  • Function as liaison between buyers, Data Management, suppliers, Private Brands, and THT.
  • Follow up with online reviews and seasonal buys.
  • Own departmental trackers that outline work submitted and completed.
  • Communicate regularly and consistently with suppliers by obtaining new and updated product information.
  • Ensuring an accuracy rating of 93% or higher on SKU and Pricing workflow submissions.
  • Partners with Data Management, team managers and other MAs as needed to complete tasks on time.
  • Create fashion purchase orders in an accurate and timely manner across multipledepartments.
  • Complete fashion purchase order modifications including, but not limited to delivery extensions, cancellations, and cost, retail, and UPC changes.
  • Responsible for our sample and ticketing processes.
  • Manage our Marketing projection tool, DemandTec, as needed.
  • Submit pricing, deals, projections, scan allowances, and co-op quickly and accurately.
  • Maintain key tracking documents utilized in monthly financial roll ups.
  • Resolving private brand customer complaints by issuing and tracking gift cards.
  • Self-direct personal and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 40 hours/week.
  • Up to 10% of travel may be required.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude towards working in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills.
  • Processes requests in an effective and time efficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining focus and composure.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Microsoft Office experience required
  • College degree preferred
  • Retail experience preferred

Projected Hourly Range: $20.00 - $23.00
