Gettysburg College invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position in the Department of Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. Gettysburg College is committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive environment that welcomes, supports, and respects all of its members.
Preference will be given to candidates who can support and enhance our course offerings in applied mathematics, although strong candidates in any area will be considered. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in one of the mathematical sciences (including statistics) or expect to complete all requirements for the degree by August 2026.
The regular teaching load for this position is the equivalent of five courses per academic year.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the mathematics program of an energetic department, to teach a broad range of topics in undergraduate mathematics, to involve students in a variety of mathematical activities outside the classroom, and to pursue mathematical research. The College is prepared to assist newly appointed faculty members in establishing a research program; this assistance may include start-up funds and a paid pre-tenure leave.
Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located within 90 minutes of the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. Established in 1832, the College has a rich history and is situated on a 220-acre campus with an enrollment of over 2,200 students. Qualifications
The following are essential: (i) demonstrated success as a teacher, with clear evidence of excellent, inclusive, and innovative teaching; (ii) strong evidence of an active, ongoing, and productive research program; and (iii) a desire for a career as a teacher/scholar in a liberal arts environment. In addition, preference will be given to candidates who can (iv) expand the mathematical expertise and teaching capabilities of the department; (v) conduct exceptional creative work with students; and (vi) support or enhance our departmental and institutional commitment to inclusive excellence.
