GENERAL LABOR/MECHANICAL ASSISTANT/GROUNDS MAINTENANCE - Seasonal, Part-time

Department: Facilities & Operations

Location: 48400 Sugarbush, Chesterfield 48047

Job Type: Seasonal, Part-Time (potential for up to 40 hours per week available)

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Must be available to work flexible day, evening, and weekend hours April 1, through October 1

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The Township is looking for efficient, safety-minded, and enthusiastic candidates that have the ability to follow directions, and like a variety of general labor tasks. Under direct supervision, this seasonal position will perform a variety of non-skilled, manual tasks, including, but not limited to, repair, maintenance, and routine upkeep of all Township facilities, parks, ballfields, and trails; clean-up of work sites; general construction tasks; grounds maintenance; refuse; fleet maintenance; other duties may be performed, as directed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs the set-up and break-down of amenities associated with Township special events, and programming.
  • Performs routine maintenance, repair, and upkeep of facilities, parks, and trails, keeping grounds debris-free.
  • Aids in the clean-up of work sites, general construction tasks, and grounds maintenance utilizing brooms, shovels, landscaping trimmers, small equipment, and other tools as needed, and/or required.
  • May assist with mechanical tasks in the Facilities Department - Fleet & Vehicle area.
  • Operates Township vehicle(s) to and from job-sites, exercising safe driving practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed and assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Must be available to work flexible day, evening, and weekend hours for the season.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, with a valid Michigan Drivers' License and a good driving record.
  • Must have reliable transportation available to and from the work site.
  • Must exercise safe driving practices at all times.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information, including status of work progress to the Crew Leader.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, use electronic devises to capture data, photos, and time spent on task.
  • Ability to adhere to established procedures and guidelines
  • Experience in facility maintenance, general labor, mechanics, landscaping, and/or event set-up & take-down preferred.

Physical Abilities & Work Environment:

  • Ability to frequently transport and/or move up to thirty-five (35) pounds; occasionally up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Ability to perceive depth, color, and details of measurement.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to verbal and written communication.
  • Frequently uses various equipment to shovel, rake, sweep, mop, cut, mow, trim, etc.
  • Frequently positions self to work under or around various items to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Constant movement and use of limbs.
  • Frequently operates motorized vehicle and power equipment.
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Constantly converses with staff members on the job. Must be able to receive and exchange accurate information.
  • Performs work in various field conditions including, but not limited to: unpaved sites, slippery sites, uneven terrain, vibration, mud, as well as regular exposure to outside weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain, humidity), waste water, and refuse.
  • May be exposed to:

Airborne particles; Chemicals; Confined spaces; Congested areas; Dust/gases/smoke/fumes/liquids/odors/grease/oil; Refuse; Noise; Wastewater
