Job description

Family Self Sufficiency Program Assistant

As the Family Self Sufficiency Program Assistant, you will work directly with the FSS Coordinator to provide support for FSS-related programs, events, and connections to resources for participants in the program. This may include communicating with partner organizations, designing graphics for print or social media, distributing flyers together with the FSS Coordinator around apartment complexes, searching for or composing proposals for grants to fund FSS related programming, assisting with events both in preparation and promotion and day-of duties, the collection of data for FSS purposes, and other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· The FSS Assistant reports directly to the FSS Coordinator. At the time of selection for the role, the Assistant and Coordinator meet and jointly determine which specific projects will be the core focus of their work.

· Duties and responsibilities connected to those core projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Managing communications with partner organizations, requesting donations or raising funds.
  • Designing graphics for print or social media or the HACR's website.
  • Distributing flyers together with the FSS Coordinator around apartment complexes
  • Searching for and/or preparing proposals for grants appropriate to FSS related programming
  • Assisting with events both in preparation, promotion, and day-of duties (travelling off-site around Richmond, speaking with potential participants at events, managing promotional materials).
  • The FSS Assistant will have the opportunity to observe coaching sessions between the FSS Coordinator and FSS Participants.
  • The FSS Assistant will engage directly with HACR residents at events and over the course of their semester spent in and around the Merle Henderson Apartments.

General Qualifications:

· Completed a FAFSA on file demonstrating financial need.

· Maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours of enrollment in eligible courses

· Maintain an aid-eligible Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status

· Currently enrolled as an Ivy Tech Community College student.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- compassion and strong relationship-building ability with regard to residents and representatives of partner organizations alike.

· A positive and proactive attitude.

· Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and Canva or similar basic graphics program preferred.

Pay Rate: $15/hr

Approximate Start Date: August 25, 2025

Last Date of Employment: May 10, 2026

Evaluations are performed at the end of each award year. Federal Work Study employees are considered for pay increases after each full year of employment. Revised 5/2025
