Job description

Company Profile:

Grant Construction, In., a family-owned business, established in 1994, specializes in large-scale construction projects focusing on concrete, framing and tower cranes. Our projects include single-family, multi-family, mixed-use and commercial projects throughout California. Employing approximately 450 people, our headquarters are in San Luis Obispo, with an additional office in Bakersfield.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Estimator Manager, the Junior Concrete/Framing Estimator will assist in calculating materials, labor and equipment costs, analyzing blueprints, quantifying materials, gathering supplier quotes, inputting data into software, preparing bid documents, supporting cost analysis by providing accurate cost breakdowns for competitive project specifications, bidding, budgeting and developing foundational skills in construction estimating and cost control. This role provides hand-on training in the bidding process, offering a strong foundation to grow into a Senior Estimator position.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Quantity Takeoffs:

Performing detailed material quantity takeoffs for concrete, rebar, formwork and other framing materials, by reviewing architectural and engineering drawings.

Cost Analysis and Data Gathering:

Gather pricing data, solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, research labor and equipment costs.

Bid Preparation Support:

Assist with the compilation and preparation of detailed bid proposals and cost estimates for project submissions.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain organized documentation of all estimates, cost breakdowns and assumptions made during the estimation process.

Collaboration:

Work closely with senior estimators, project managers and field staff to clarify project requirements and ensure a smooth project handoff.

Site Visits:

Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand site conditions and project logistics better.

Software Use:

Utilize and accurately input data into industry-related software to include Bluebeam, ProCore, MS Project, MS Excel, BuilderTrend, Planswift, etc.

Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in a construction-related or civil engineering discipline; Bachelor’s Degree preferred;

0 – 3 years of experience within a construction-related environment in project estimation, project management, project coordination; or alternatively, relevant recent education;

Proficiency in construction-related software, or ability to quickly learn the various applications;

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications;

A willingness to learn and be coached and mentored;

Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Strong analytical, mathematical and computer skills required;

Astute time management, attention to detail, accuracy, organizational, planning, effective multi-tasking, problem-solving, analytical, follow-through and customer service skills;

Ability to work effectively alone and within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative team environment;

Valid CA driver’s license, clean and insurable driving record and own vehicle.

Compensation:

$35.00 – $50.00 per hour DOE, for this full-time, non-exempt position.

Benefits:

Vision insurance provided on an elective basis;

9 paid public holidays annually;

40 hours of paid vacation annually during years 0 – 4 and rising incrementally thereafter, on an accrual basis;

40 hours of standard CA paid sick time annually, allotted in a lump sum after 90 days of employment and at the 1st of the year thereafter;

Mileage reimbursement provided by employer.

7:00AM – 5:00PM Monday – Friday
