Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Executive Assistant provides high-level executive, governance, and operational support to the Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska and the Executive Team. Serving as a trusted partner and strategic extension of the CEO, this role ensures the effective functioning of the Office of the CEO and supports Board of Directors operations, executive priorities, and organizational continuity.

This position requires exceptional judgment, discretion, organizational skill, and the ability to operate independently in a complex, mission-driven nonprofit environment.

Executive Office Management

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and strategic support to the CEO and Executive Team
  • Manage a complex and dynamic calendar, prioritizing meetings, deadlines, and commitments to maximize executive effectiveness
  • Prepare correspondence, briefings, presentations, reports, and background materials for meetings, travel, public engagements, and organizational reporting requirements
  • Serve as the primary gatekeeper for communications directed to the CEO, exercising sound judgement and discretion

Board & Governance Support

  • Coordinate all logistics, materials, and communications for the Board of Directors and board committees, including agendas, meeting packets, minutes, and follow-up tracking
  • Act as a liaison between the CEO, Board Chair, committee chairs, and internal staff to support effective governance and communication
  • Support compliance and governance best practices, bylaws, and documentation standards

Strategic & Organizational Coordination

  • Track executive action items, deadlines, and strategic initiatives to ensure follow-through across departments
  • Assist with planning and coordination of senior leadership meetings, executive retreats, and strategic planning sessions
  • Support succession planning, executive transitions, and special projects assigned by the CEO
  • Conduct research, compile data, and prepare summaries to support executive decision-making

Administrative Leadership & Operations

  • Maintain organized systems for executive records, confidential files, contracts, correspondence, and reporting
  • Coordinate executive travel arrangements and manage expense reporting in accordance with organizational policies
  • Support internal communications and administrative workflows to improve efficiency and alignment
  • Model professionalism, integrity, compassion, and respect in all interactions consistent with Goodwill’s mission and values

STAFF PERSONS SUPERVISED: Receptionist

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree or higher in business administration, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience providing executive-level support, preferably to a CEO or senior executive
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Board of Directors or governance processes
  • Exceptional organizational, strong attention to detail, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, emotional intelligence, and confidentiality
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to communicate in spoken conversation and have normal hearing for conversation and telephone use
  • Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces, to move safely about the work area
  • Visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision within normal range
  • Have the physical stamina to work at least eight (8) hours per day and be able to travel to sites, conferences, etc., via automobile, airplane, etc

  • Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, education, or mission-driven organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience drafting executive communications
  • Ability to anticipate needs, exercise judgment independently, manage ambiguity and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Mission alignment and organizational stewardship
