Job Description:
The Financial Counselor will assist patients in the identification of financial assistance to ensure proper account management through the accounts receivable process. This customer service driven position will work in conjunction with members of Patient Access, Patient Financial Services team and third party eligibility programs to assist patients in the area of charity care, Governmental program assistance such as Medicaid, and payment plan arrangements. The Financial Counselor interviews patients/guarantors at patient bed side, in person and via phone to assist patient in resolving the patients' fiscal responsibility of Great Plains Health patient accounts. The position is responsible for administering all payment option programs (ex. payment plans, payroll deductions and financial assistance.) and communicates with patients, third parties and other departments verbally and in writing to ensure correct and timely reimbursement and assistance. Minimum Qualifications

oHigh school diploma or equivalent required and must be 19 years of age.

Physical Demands
1.Sit constantly.
2.Stand/walk frequently.
3.Lift floor to waist height 30 pounds occasionally; waist to waist 25 pounds occasionally; waist to overhead 20 pounds occasionally. And carry 10 pounds up to 25 feet occasionally.
4.Reach overhead frequently standing and turn reaching shoulder height while sitting frequently.
5.Fine motor coordination within normal limits for age and gender.
6.Constant computer use.
7.Visual acuity within normal limits.
Essential Functions
1.Interviews all in house Self Pay patients prior to discharge for purpose of financial assistance and planning to ensure revenue obtainment and accounts receivable management. Supports ER Self Pay patients as deemed appropriate. Follows up with patients discharged after hours or on weekends.
2.Completes financial analysis and collects estimated patient liabilities as appropriate
3.Works in conjunction with third party eligibility vendor to ensure proper identification of patient financial status.
4.Ensure the accuracy of patient demographics and insurance information obtained and verified at time of Registration. Updates patient information within supporting information systems and enters notes to support status updates.
5.Must be able to solve problems within the guidelines of established policies and procedures.
6.Maintain professional image and portrays excellent customer service .
7.Practice AIDET on all encounters.
8.Acts as a team player, assists in identifying opportunities that enhance financial counseling, scheduling and registration accuracy.
