Could you be the full-time V.I.E. Robotics Engineer in Hornell, NY we're looking for?

About the Role
This position is based at Alstom's Hornell, New York facility-the largest Alstom manufacturing site in the United States and a key center for stainless-steel rail vehicle production. In this role, you will work on a state-of-the-art robotic production line, utilizing the latest FANUC robotics and Siemens PLC technologies to manufacture modern rail car bodies.

This opportunity offers hands-on involvement in advanced automation and robotic welding projects within a global, innovation-driven industrial environment. Your contributions will play a direct role in shaping the next generation of rail transportation through the application of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your robotics and industrial engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside innovative, collaborative, and driven teammates.

You'll make an impact by supporting the deployment of advanced robotic systems in our industrial operations, contributing to the production of rolling stock and components. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (robotics engineers, process experts, and industrial functions), develop and validate offline robot programs, and ensure optimal cycle times and system reliability.

You'll specifically take care of simulating and calibrating robotic systems, but also assist during on-site testing and ramp-up phases.

We'll look to you for:

  • Developing offline programs for robotic cells in current projects
  • Transferring layouts and robotic configurations from Process Simulate to Real Time Robotics (RTR)
  • Calibrating virtual models with real robots
  • Simulating and validating robot paths, cycle times, and collision detection
  • Adjusting programs based on simulation results and shopfloor feedback
  • Coordinating with robotics and automation engineers to ensure smooth system integration
  • Assisting during on-site testing, validation, and ramp-up of robotic systems
  • Developing technical documentation and guidelines for offline programming tools
  • Capturing feedback from production and commissioning to improve future developments

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That's why we don't expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we've listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (specialization in automation or robotics is a plus)
  • Familiarity with robotic systems and automation technologies
  • Strong knowledge of production processes and industrial practices
  • Experience or understanding of manufacturing and robotics (appreciated)
  • Fluent English communication skills
  • Able to foster communication between multiple stakeholders
  • Team spirit and adaptability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Driver's license (appreciated)

Things you'll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey - the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You'll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines
  • Work with cutting-edge robotic systems and automation technologies
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues
  • Contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of mobility
  • Utilize our dynamic and inclusive working environment

You don't need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you'll be proud. If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to hear from you!

Important to note

As a global business, we're an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63  countries we operate in. We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
