Veterinary Assistant – Join a Specialty Ophthalmology Team

Animal Eye Care Associates is looking for a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our specialty ophthalmology team in Durham, NC.

Our team focuses exclusively on veterinary ophthalmology, providing specialized care for pets experiencing a wide range of eye conditions and vision concerns. From comprehensive eye examinations and advanced diagnostics to medical management and surgical care, our team works together to help improve our patients’ comfort, vision, and quality of life.

This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant who wants to grow beyond general practice, gain exposure to specialty medicine, and learn alongside an experienced ophthalmology team.

What You'll Do

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an important role in supporting our doctors, technicians, patients, and clients throughout the day. Responsibilities may include:

  • Safely restraining and handling patients for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
  • Preparing exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments
  • Assisting veterinarians and technicians during ophthalmic examinations and procedures
  • Helping prepare patients for diagnostic testing and surgical procedures
  • Supporting patient monitoring and recovery
  • Administering medications and treatments under the direction of the veterinary team
  • Obtaining patient histories and documenting information accurately in medical records
  • Providing compassionate care to patients throughout their visit
  • Communicating professionally with pet owners and helping them feel comfortable and informed
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining exam, treatment, and surgical areas
  • Restocking supplies and helping maintain an organized hospital environment
  • Supporting the veterinary team wherever needed to keep patient care running smoothly
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous veterinary assistant or animal care experience
  • Is comfortable handling dogs and cats of different sizes and temperaments
  • Has strong communication and organizational skills
  • Works well in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Is dependable, compassionate, and attentive to detail
  • Is eager to learn new skills and develop their knowledge of specialty veterinary medicine
  • Takes pride in providing excellent patient and client care

Previous ophthalmology or specialty experience is a plus, but not required. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in veterinary care and a willingness to learn.
