Job description

Position Overview

Southeastern Site Development is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator (Backhoe / Trackhoe) for projects throughout the Southern Atlanta Metro Region - Griffin. This role is key to site development, roadway construction, and underground utility installation.


Typical projects include DOT-regulated roadway construction, storm drainage, water and sewer installation, grading, and public infrastructure work.


The Excavator Operator will safely and efficiently operate equipment to support grading, excavation, and utility crews on active construction sites. Join a skilled team delivering quality work on roadway and public infrastructure projects throughout Georgia. This position is ideal for operators who take pride in productive, high-quality field work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Heavy Equipment to dig trenches, cut grade, load/unload trucks, and lay pipe
  • Excavate for underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm systems
  • Assist with roadway and site development construction
  • Perform grading and ensure slope is on grade
  • Follow grade stakes, site plans, and directions from field leadership
  • Work safely around crews installing utilities and other heavy equipment
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance checks
  • Maintain productivity while following all safety requirements


Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating excavators or similar heavy equipment (trackhoe, backhoe)
  • Ability to read grade stakes or understand site layout
  • Ability to work safely on active construction job sites
  • Reliable transportation to job sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic
  • At least 1 year of heavy equipment operating experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on heavy civil, grading, utility, or site development projects
  • Experience working around underground utilities
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems
