ProSidian Seeks a Environmental Engineer - Engineering (DS109) (Time and Materials | Exempt Engagement Team - Senior Consultant Level) to support an engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRMC]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. - DS109 | Prof.  This position is located in the Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina Area. 

Environmental Engineer - Engineering (DS109) Candidates shall work to support requirements for TBC (Engineering Services) and statement of work (SOW) while maintaining required qualifications Nuclear & Environmental Management Sector.  ProSidian Team Members work as part of the Environmental Engineer Engagement Team Cadre to serve as an Environmental Engineer responsible for performing a variety of Environmental Engineering assignments, including design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of various process equipment and systems, and generally as a member of a design, construction, operations, or review team on more complex assignments or as a lead on less complex projects.  In addition, support and engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRMC]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which the US Department of Energy owns.

An Environmental Engineer, or Environmental Engineering Specialist, is responsible for using environmental science principles to improve public health, reduce pollution and remove environmental hazards from the community.  Their duties include collecting ecological samples and data, performing land assessments, and designing systems to eliminate waste safely.  Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. In addition, they work to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and water and air pollution control.

This service supports Environmental Management Sector Clients (For Present / Future Requirements), and ProSidian Team Members work as part of an Engagement Team Cadre to fulfill Environmental Engineering requirements.  An Environmental Engineer, or Facilities Environmental Engineer, designs, builds, and tests various mechanical devices, like industrial machines, transportation systems, and robotics equipment.  In addition, Environmental Engineers perform many Environmental, scientific, and technical tasks related to the process of Nuclear, Energy, and Environmental Management Sector products/services/deliverables.  Some of their typical duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following worksite functionalities (Specific Task Order Performance Work Statements May supersede listed tasks for this role):

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze and resolve work-related issues and assist Environmental Specialists in identifying and resolving problems.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of hazardous waste generator points and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.
  • Conduct reclamation, recycling, and reuse operations for the assigned program.
  • Develop guidelines for the disposal of hazardous materials
  • Direct chemical treatment service for chilled and hot water systems.
  • Ensure that productivity, schedule, and contract commitments are achieved, and client policy and safety requirements comply.
  • Establish, organize, and train the Worksite, Client Engagement, Project, and Facility Spill Response Teams and serve as incident Commander.
  • Evaluate current systems and design innovative ways to improve or replace the existing systems or processes
  • Field observation and field sample collections
  • Find better solutions for site cleanup on a construction site
  • Improve waste management system design
  • Investigate, record, and compile reports for environmental-related complaints
  • Land assessments for industrial, commercial, or residential sites for environmental impact if someone were to build on that site
  • Monitor sick leave, emergency leave, and leave without pay for all employees under their supervision. In addition, perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Monitor the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Storm Water installation programs and conduct monitoring and sampling in support of environmental permits.
  • Operate and provide limited maintenance for the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility, Water Deionization Facility, And Ground Water Treatment Facility.

Other Responsibilities: Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Ability to conduct assessments and audits, independent checks, readiness reviews, or similar within DOE facilities.
  • Ability to function as a consultant in solving problems.
  • Ability to operate complex machinery
  • Adequate technical skills to read and understand drawings, diagrams, procurement packages, P&IDs, or similar.
  • Computer competency in the use of Excel and MS Word.
  • Detail-oriented and able to solve problems independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with Design Change Control (specifically change orders and Temporary Modifications)
  • Experience working with Lock Out/Tag Out programs
  • Familiarity with at least one maintenance/plant operations software package (Smart Plant, Champs, or Maximo).
  • History of developing or working with work packages.
  • Keep up to date with fast-moving developments in science and technology
  • Lab and field work during studies is highly recommended
  • Possess a strong mathematics background

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A College degree (BA/BS) in physical or biological sciences or ten (10) years demonstrated proficiency in managing environmental operations for large operations and maintenance or manufacturing companies.
  • A Master's Degree or Professional Environmental Engineer Licensure preferred
  • At least Six (6) years' experience in Environmental Management, including two (2) years of supervisory level experience. Non-Degreed - Ten (10) years. Degreed - Six (6) years.
  • Education typically includes theoretical coursework, hands-on projects, and training with various computer programming programs, power systems, and technically oriented material subjects, like hydraulics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent math skills, including advanced geometry, calculus, and physics
  • Experience with DOE and NCS experience and Candidate must be able to obtain a DOE Q clearance
  • Hold a Professional Engineering (PE) - Environmental Engineering license.  To earn the PE licensure, candidates should have a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by the Accreditation Board for Environmental Engineering and Technology (ABET) and experience working under the supervision of a licensed Environmental Engineer.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and other Environmental Engineering concepts
  • Lead in a Nuclear, Energy, and Environmental Management Sector maintenance organization within a DOE facility.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Environmental Engineering | Instrumentation & Controls Experience | Experience with DOE | PE License Preferred
  • Requisite work experience and technical skills to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of the Environmental Engineers working and performing tasks in the Energy Industry (Oil and Gas / Power and Utilities / Nuclear Energy)
  • The ability to read, write and interpret technical data and working knowledge of the inspection, repair, and testing of the environmental system components of aircraft and associated engines is required. The position may require travel.

3.6 Personnel Qualifications/Certifications --- all personnel shall have demonstrated experience in Nuclear Safety, Criticality, Radiological Engineering, Health Physics, Fire Protection, or Engineering Technical Support.  These individuals must have U.S. citizenship and the ability to maintain DOE site access.

3.6.1 Nuclear and Criticality Safety --- IMC Contractor/SRS or other DOE complex experience is preferred.

Criticality personnel are required to obtain or have SRS Nuclear Criticality Safety qualifications (e.g., Criticality Safety Engineer (CSE), Senior Criticality Safety Engineer (SCSE), Criticality Safety Officer (CSO), Associate Criticality Safety Engineer (ACSE)).

Radiological Engineering and Health Physics personnel are required to achieve/maintain applicable SRS qualifications.
