Job description

Job Summary

Assists the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on the individualized plan of care for a patient. As delegated, performs basic nursing activities. Conducts data collection, monitors and documents patient status. Ensures confidentiality of all patient information. Utilizes safe patient handling at all times. Informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients and changes in patient status. Provides a neat and clean patient environment.

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose:Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living. Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance. May transport patients and assist with walking. Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated.

  • Provides patient care as delegated by the RN including, but not limited to, non-sterile soaks, application of non-sterile simple dressings, perineal care.

  • Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and outtake and basic and sterile specimen collection. Properly documents and maintains data on medical record and informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients and changes in patient status.

  • Runs errands, answers telephone, answers and responds to call lights.

  • Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN.

  • Provides and documents comfort and non-pharmacological pain management measures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Completion of a nursing assistant or patient care tech program.

  • Experience - No experience required.

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, will accept current or former state CN A certification as proof of completed state required training at time of hire.

  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer skills / Data entry skills

  • Mathematical skills

  • Working knowledge of patient equip (suction, vitals, defib)
