Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications within the Office of Marketing and Creative Services, the Digital Content Specialist is primarily responsible for creating, managing and optimizing content (images, video and copy) for the University's flagship social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and emerging platforms), ensuring consistent branding, and audience engagement and accessibility. The Specialist is responsible for identifying content opportunities and developing copy and posts independently, and collaborating with other content creators in the office and campuswide to tell the University's story. The role also involves managing campus digital displays, updating content on the University's website, particularly as it relates to social media, and supporting a marketing and communications strategy for The University of Baltimore. This role will participate in campus-wide collaboration groups, including the PR/Communications Group and Web Work Group, to share information about content planning, source ideas for future campaigns and ensure consistent messaging across web and social platforms.
This role is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule with supervisory approval.

Responsibilities:

Create, curate and manage content across the University's social media platforms; collaborate with marketing team and cross-campus partners to identify and execute content opportunities and identify and participate in cross-channel storytelling, including for the UBalt website and blogs, email campaigns, and, as needed, print materials.

Inform and support the University's marketing and communications strategy as it applies to social media and digital content to build engagement, brand awareness and support student recruitment and retention efforts. As part of the marketing and creative services team, work to ensure consistent branding and messaging throughout the University.

Consult and collaborate with selected internal constituencies to audit and guide the development or improvement of social media, web content and other digital content and architecture based on best practices and internal standards.

Keep abreast of technology, social media and analytics/measurement trends to inform content planning and scheduling and provide recommendations for digital communications strategy and implementation. Establish and manage content channels and develop social media presence on emerging platforms.

Monitor comments and messages and, when appropriate, engage positively with audiences across social media platforms to share information, build community and widen networks.

Review and report on analytics to measure effectiveness and recommend strategic improvements. Coordinate with the marketing team and advertising agency when social strategy/activities are part of paid campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing/Digital Media Marketing, Journalism, or related field/discipline.

Experience: Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in content development, professional digital media marketing and communications, project management, and using photography and video for digital marketing campaigns.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree in Communications, Marketing/Digital Media Marketing, Journalism or related field/discipline.

Experience: Previous experience in a higher-education environment; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and video software; experience with social media analytics, such as Google Analytics and/or Sprout Social, etc.; experience working within website CMS platforms and marketing CRM software; experience working directly with clients to help them achieve digital content goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge and skill writing and editing across print and digital marketing platforms; superior written, electronic and verbal communication skills as well as excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated self-starter with thorough understanding of content development and strategy, especially as it pertains to web and social media; well versed in digital best practices and analytics. Possesses high levels of initiative, motivation and strategic thinking in addition to the ability to cultivate relationships with stakeholders, set and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects with minimal direction. Demonstrated strong customer service ethic and the ability to think creatively and exercise sound judgment. Knowledge of key and emerging social media outlets and experience identifying trends and managing digital campaigns. Knowledge of Associated Press style. Knowledge of content-strategy fundamentals and effective web practices. Familiarity with content management systems. Ability to manage student workers.

As this position will be responsible for monitoring the University's social media accounts, they will be required to respond to posts that need immediate attention and/or share these posts with the appropriate University personnel outside of the traditional workday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and over the weekend. There may be occasional after-hours or weekend events that require social media coverage.
