Job description

Friendly Home is seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing to join our nursing leadership team. This role supports the Director of Health Services in overseeing daily clinical operations, promoting high-quality resident care, supporting nursing staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in a skilled nursing environment.

The Assistant Director of Nursing plays an important leadership role in coordinating resident care, supporting quality assurance and infection control initiatives, mentoring nursing team members, and helping maintain a collaborative, resident-centered culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning, organization, implementation, and supervision of day-to-day nursing department operations.
  • Support quality assurance, performance improvement, infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and clinical data collection activities.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and on-unit education to nursing staff to promote safe, effective, and compassionate care.
  • Participate in policy and procedure development, nursing department goals, audits, corrective action plans, and regulatory readiness efforts.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders, interdisciplinary team members, residents, and families to support individualized care and communication.
  • Assist with interviews, orientation, staff development, and performance appraisal processes for nursing department team members.
  • Assume responsibility for nursing department operations in the absence of the Director of Health Services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable long-term care regulations.
Qualifications
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive nursing experience in long-term care or skilled nursing preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, regulations, and guidelines applicable to long-term care.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, organize, problem-solve, and build positive working relationships with staff, residents, families, and interdisciplinary partners.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement, resident-centered care, and excellent customer service.
