Assistant Director, Residential Housing Operations

Job Description:
Job Summary
The Assistant Director, Residential Housing Operations (Residential Services) ensures staff readiness to meet the residential and academic needs of students. Manages employees and residential services building details to deliver residential academic environments. Responsible for supporting University Residences to manage daily operations of large residential buildings through academic year, summer school, and summer program (conference) operations in assigned neighborhood/zone. Work to achieve day-to-day department objectives with major impact on area of responsibility. This staff member manages department brand and customer expectations in support of the academic mission of Purdue University, Student Life, and University Residences. Direct and coordinate all aspects of conference activities within assigned area. Lead and manage direct reports, delegating tasks and operational authority to maximize quantity of work across department and assigned neighborhood.
The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the operations of front desks in their assigned neighborhood or area of oversight (usually 4-5 desks.)
This role supervises a team of 4- 5 full- time clerks and is ultimately responsible for the supervision of a large group of student office staff/summer staff. This staff member provides support and guidance during the Move-in and Move-out processes, as well as peak/key times throughout the year. The supervisor will ensure the quality and accuracy of all communication related to Residential Services and will be involved in training and development programs for full-time and student staff. Additionally, this position serves in a scheduled on-call rotation to support student and full-time staff employed in a vibrant department that houses students and program participants year-round, including break and summer periods.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in management, education, or related field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent level of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Broad knowledge of front desk operations, housing operations and student affairs theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and develop professional staff
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and fiscal analysis
  • Ability to establish long and short-term goals consistent with the mission of the university and the division.
  • Ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus and externally with a variety of constituents.
  • Self-motivated, have attention to detail, and adept at solving problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents.
  • Strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient at computer software word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.

What is helpful:
  • Master's degree in management or related field.
  • Supervision of graduate level or full-time staff.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience.
