Lead MRI Technologist

UVA Health Outpatient Imaging Culpeper is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead MRI Technologist to join our team in Culpeper, Virginia! This leadership opportunity combines hands-on MRI expertise with team coordination and operational oversight. The Lead MRI Technologist will help oversee daily MRI operations, support and mentor technologists, and ensure we continue providing safe, efficient, high-quality patient care.

Position Details:

  • Position Status: Full-Time
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: UVA Health Outpatient Imaging Culpeper – Culpeper, VA
  • Sign-On Bonus: $5,000

Position Summary:

The Lead MRI Technologist is responsible for coordinating day-to-day MRI workflow while providing clinical leadership and support to MRI technologists and staff. This position works closely with radiologists, physicians, and leadership to maintain MRI safety, image quality, operational efficiency, and an excellent patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate daily MRI department operations and workflow
  • Provide leadership and support to MRI technologists and clinical staff
  • Ensure compliance with MRI safety standards, accreditation requirements, and departmental policies
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, training, onboarding, and team development
  • Perform high-quality MRI procedures while prioritizing patient comfort and safety
  • Monitor image quality and ensure adherence to established MRI protocols
  • Troubleshoot equipment and workflow concerns in collaboration with leadership and service vendors
  • Support continuous improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives
  • Collaborate with radiologists, nursing staff, and referring providers to optimize patient care

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an MRI Technologist

Education:

  • Must have a minimum associate's degree in Radiology or be a graduate of an accredited two-year radiology program.

License/Certification Requirements: Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography, or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMIT) and maintain current valid registration from ARRT or ARMIT. MR advanced registration through ARRT or ARMIT is required upon hire for IDTF centers. Non-IDTF centers require MR advanced registry within the first 12 months of employment. Additionally, must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of routine to complex MRI procedures and protocols.
  • Skill in operation of MRI equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
  • Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data.
